3. Setup and Installation
Proper installation is crucial for the safe and efficient operation of your water heater. It is recommended that installation be carried out by a certified professional.
3.1 Mounting Options:
- Vertical Installation: Branch pipes should point downwards.
- Horizontal Installation: Branch pipes should point to the left.
- Use the provided wall anchors and mounting kit to securely fasten the boiler to a sturdy wall capable of supporting its weight (19 kg empty, significantly more when full).
3.2 Water Connections:
Connect the water inlet and outlet pipes. The boiler includes a 3-way safety valve which combines a drain valve, a non-return valve, and a pressure relief valve. This valve must be installed on the cold water inlet.
- Cold Water Inlet: Connect to the blue marked pipe. Install the 3-way safety valve here.
- Hot Water Outlet: Connect to the red marked pipe.
- Ensure all connections are watertight.
- Minimum water pressure: 0.05 MPa. Maximum water pressure: 0.7 MPa.
- Working pressure: maximum 0.8 MPa.

3.3 Electrical Connection:
- The boiler comes with a connection cable and plug.
- Connect to a standard 230 Volt, 10 Ampere power outlet.
- Critical Step: Before plugging in the appliance, ensure the water heater tank is completely filled with water. Open a hot water tap until water flows freely, indicating the tank is full and air has been purged. Failure to do so will damage the heating elements and void the warranty.
4. Operating Instructions
The Thermex IF 50 Smart Boiler features a user-friendly control panel for easy operation.
4.1 Control Panel Overview:

Figure 4.1: Detailed view of the control panel, showing the On/Off button, Temperature adjustment, Smart mode button, and temperature indicators (55°C, 65°C, 75°C) along with an alarm indicator.
- On/Off Button (⏻): Press to power the unit on or off.
- Temperature Adjustment (±): Use to cycle through available temperature settings (e.g., 55°C, 65°C, 75°C). The selected temperature will be indicated by an illuminated LED.
- Smart Mode Button (S): Activates or deactivates the intelligent learning function.
- Temperature Indicators (55, 65, 75): LEDs illuminate to show the current target temperature setting.
- Alarm Indicator (👣): Illuminates in case of a detected fault or error.
4.2 Power On/Off:
Press the On/Off button to switch the water heater on. The display will light up, and the unit will begin heating water to the last set temperature or default temperature. Press again to turn off.
4.3 Temperature Adjustment:
With the unit powered on, press the Temperature adjustment button to select your desired water temperature. The corresponding LED (55°C, 65°C, or 75°C) will light up.
4.4 Smart Mode Functionality:
The intelligent "SMART" mode monitors your hot water usage patterns over a 7-day cycle. It anticipates your hot water needs and preheats accordingly, ensuring hot water is available when required while minimizing energy consumption during periods of low demand. In times when hot water is not typically needed, the water will be maintained at a minimum temperature. Activate or deactivate this mode by pressing the Smart Mode button.
5. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and efficient operation of your Thermex IF 50 Smart Boiler.
- Drainage: If the appliance will not be used for an extended period or if there is a risk of freezing, drain the water heater completely. Consult a professional for proper drainage procedures.
- Safety Valve Inspection: Periodically check the 3-way safety valve for proper operation. Refer to the safety valve manufacturer's instructions for specific maintenance.
- Anode Rod Inspection: The internal tanks are protected by an anode rod. This rod should be inspected and replaced periodically (typically every 1-2 years, depending on water quality) by a qualified technician to prevent corrosion.
- Exterior Cleaning: Clean the exterior of the boiler with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
6. Troubleshooting
This section addresses common issues you might encounter. For problems not listed here, please contact customer support.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No hot water | No power; thermostat setting too low; heating element failure. | Check power supply and circuit breaker; increase temperature setting; contact service for heating element inspection. |
| Water not hot enough | Temperature setting too low; high hot water demand; sediment buildup. | Increase temperature setting; allow more recovery time; consider professional descaling. |
| Alarm indicator illuminated | Internal fault detected by self-diagnosis system. | Turn off the unit, wait a few minutes, then turn it back on. If the alarm persists, contact customer support. |
| Water leaking from safety valve | Normal operation during heating (expansion); faulty safety valve; excessive water pressure. | A small drip is normal. If continuous or excessive, check water pressure or replace safety valve. Consult a professional. |
