Citizen Men's Thin Red Line Watch User Manual

Model: CA0299-57E

Introduction

This manual provides comprehensive instructions for the Citizen Men's Thin Red Line Watch, Model CA0299-57E. This timepiece features Citizen's Eco-Drive technology, which converts light into energy, eliminating the need for battery replacement. It also includes a chronograph function, date display, and is water-resistant to 200 meters.

Please read this manual carefully to ensure proper use and maintenance of your watch.

1. Setup

1.1 Initial Charging

Your Citizen Eco-Drive watch is powered by light. Before initial use, ensure the watch is fully charged by exposing it to bright light (natural or artificial) for several hours. A full charge provides approximately 210 days of power reserve.

1.2 Setting the Time and Date

  1. Pull out the crown: Gently pull the crown (located at the 3 o'clock position) out to the second click position. The second hand will stop.
  2. Set the time: Rotate the crown to set the hour and minute hands. Ensure the AM/PM is correctly set if your watch has a 12/24 hour display.
  3. Set the date: Push the crown in to the first click position. Rotate the crown to set the date. Avoid setting the date between 9:00 PM and 1:00 AM, as this may damage the date mechanism.
  4. Push in the crown: Once the time and date are set, push the crown back into the normal position. The second hand will resume movement.

1.3 Adjusting the Bracelet

The stainless steel bracelet can be adjusted for a comfortable fit. It is recommended to have this adjustment performed by a qualified jeweler or watch technician to prevent damage to the bracelet or clasp mechanism.

2. Operating the Watch

2.1 Timekeeping

Your watch continuously displays the current time (hours, minutes, seconds) and date. The 12/24 hour sub-dial indicates the time in a 24-hour format, synchronized with the main hour hand.

2.2 Using the Chronograph

The chronograph function allows for precise measurement of elapsed time up to 60 minutes in 1/5 second increments.

  1. Start: Press the upper pusher (A) to start the chronograph. The chronograph second hand will begin to move.
  2. Stop: Press the upper pusher (A) again to stop the chronograph. The elapsed time will be indicated by the chronograph hands.
  3. Reset: After stopping, press the lower pusher (B) to reset the chronograph hands to their zero positions.
  4. Split Time: While the chronograph is running, press the lower pusher (B) to measure a split time. The chronograph hands will stop to show the split time. Press (B) again to resume measurement.

2.3 Tachymeter Scale

The tachymeter scale on the bezel can be used to calculate speed over a known distance (e.g., 1 kilometer or 1 mile). Start the chronograph at the beginning of the distance and stop it at the end. The number on the tachymeter scale corresponding to the chronograph second hand's position indicates the average speed per hour.

2.4 Water Resistance

This watch is water resistant to 200 meters (660 feet). This makes it suitable for professional marine activity and serious surface water sports, but not for saturation diving. Do not operate the crown or pushers while the watch is wet or submerged.

3. Maintenance

3.1 Charging Your Eco-Drive Watch

To maintain optimal performance, ensure your watch receives regular exposure to light. Avoid prolonged storage in dark places. If the watch stops or the second hand moves in two-second intervals, it indicates a low charge and requires immediate exposure to light.

3.2 Cleaning

Wipe the watch case and bracelet regularly with a soft, dry cloth to remove dirt and moisture. For stainless steel, a slightly damp cloth can be used, followed by a dry one. Avoid using chemical cleaners or solvents.

3.3 Water Resistance Care

After exposure to saltwater, rinse the watch with fresh water and dry it thoroughly. Ensure the crown is always pushed in completely to maintain water resistance. Do not expose the watch to extreme temperature changes.

3.4 Storage

When storing the watch for extended periods, place it in an area where it can receive some light to prevent it from fully discharging. If stored in complete darkness, it may enter a power-saving mode or stop completely, requiring a full recharge.

4. Troubleshooting

  • Watch has stopped or second hand moves in two-second intervals: This indicates insufficient charge. Expose the watch to bright light for several hours until it resumes normal operation.
  • Time or date is incorrect: Refer to Section 1.2 "Setting the Time and Date" to reset.
  • Chronograph hands do not reset to zero: If the chronograph hands are not aligned to the 12 o'clock position when reset, they may need calibration. Consult a Citizen service center for assistance.
  • Condensation inside the crystal: This may indicate a loss of water resistance. Have the watch inspected by a qualified technician immediately.
