1. Introduction

The OREI HDS-401MV HDMI Switcher 4x1 Quad Screen Multiviewer is designed to connect up to four HDMI input sources to a single HD display. This device supports 1080p resolution, DTS/Dolby audio, and offers seamless switching between sources. It features multiple display modes, including a quad-screen multiviewer, allowing simultaneous viewing of up to four inputs. Control options include an IR remote and front panel buttons, with RS-232 for advanced integration. This switcher is ideal for applications requiring flexible display management of multiple HDMI sources.

3. Product Overview

3.1 Front Panel

The front panel provides essential controls and indicators for easy operation.

• Power LED: Indicates the power status of the unit.
• IR Receiver: Receives signals from the included IR remote control.
• Input LEDs (1-4): Indicate which HDMI input is currently selected or active.
• Scaler Button: Cycles through different scaling options.
• Audio Button: Mutes audio or activates the on-screen display (hold for 1.5 seconds).
• Mode Button: Cycles through the 5 available display modes (single, 2-screen, 4-screen equal, 4-screen 1-large/3-small, 4-screen 2-large/2-small).
• Select Button: Selects the active input source.

3.2 Rear Panel

The rear panel houses all input and output connections.

• HDMI Inputs (IN 1-4): Connect your HDMI source devices (e.g., gaming consoles, media players).
• HDMI Output (OUTPUT): Connects to your display device (TV, monitor).
• VGA Output: Provides an alternative video output for VGA-compatible displays.

4. Setup

Follow these steps to set up your OREI HDS-401MV HDMI Switcher:

1. Connect HDMI Sources: Connect up to four HDMI source devices (e.g., Blu-ray player, gaming console, cable box, PC) to the HDMI IN 1-4 ports on the rear panel of the switcher using high-quality HDMI cables.
2. Connect to Display: Connect your HD display (TV, monitor, projector) to the HDMI OUTPUT port on the rear panel of the switcher using an HDMI cable. If using a VGA display, connect it to the VGA output.
3. Connect Audio (Optional): If you wish to extract audio to an external sound system, connect your audio device to either the 3.5mm Stereo Audio Output or the Optical (TOSLINK) Output.
4. Power On: Connect the included 5V DC power adapter to the DC 5V port on the rear panel and plug it into a power outlet. Flip the On/Off switch to the 'On' position. The Power LED on the front panel will illuminate.
5. Position IR Remote: Ensure the IR receiver window on the front panel is unobstructed if you plan to use the remote control.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Switching Inputs

You can switch between HDMI input sources using the front panel buttons or the IR remote control.

• Front Panel: Press the 'Select' button repeatedly to cycle through the connected HDMI inputs (IN 1 to IN 4). The corresponding Input LED will light up.
• IR Remote: Use the numbered buttons (1, 2, 3, 4) on the remote to directly select the desired HDMI input.

5.2 Multiviewer Modes

The HDS-401MV offers 5 different display modes for viewing multiple inputs simultaneously or individually.

• Mode 1 (Single Screen): Displays one selected HDMI input in full screen.
• Mode 2 (2-Screen Mode): Displays two selected HDMI inputs side-by-side.
• Mode 3 (4-Screen Equal): Displays all four HDMI inputs in equal-sized quadrants.
• Mode 4 (4-Screen 1-Large/3-Small): Displays one large HDMI input with three smaller inputs on the side.
• Mode 5 (4-Screen 2-Large/2-Small): Displays two large HDMI inputs with two smaller inputs.

Press the 'Mode' button on the front panel or the remote control to cycle through these display modes. Use the 'Select' button to choose which inputs are displayed in multi-viewer modes.

5.3 Audio Management

The switcher supports audio extraction and pass-through for various formats.

• Mute Audio: Tap the 'Audio' button on the front panel or remote to mute/unmute the audio from the selected HDMI input.
• On-Screen Display (OSD): Hold the 'Audio' button for 1.5 seconds to activate the On-Screen Display for advanced audio settings.
• Audio Pass-through: Supports DTS Digital, Dolby Digital, LPCM, True HD/DTS-HD master audio, and pass-through for 5.1, 7.1, and 9.1 channel audio.

5.4 Resolution Scaling

The 'Scaler' button on the front panel allows you to adjust the output resolution to match your display's capabilities or preferences.

• Resolution Options: Cycle through available output resolutions (e.g., 1080p, 720p) by pressing the 'Scaler' button.

5.5 Firmware Update & RS-232 Control

The Micro USB port on the rear panel can be used for firmware updates and serial control.

• Firmware Update: Connect the Micro USB port to a computer to update the device firmware as needed.
• RS-232 Control: Use the Micro USB port with an appropriate RS-232 to USB cable and a serial command tool on your PC to send ASCII commands for device control.

• No Video Output:
  • Ensure all HDMI/VGA cables are securely connected.
  • Verify the power adapter is connected and the unit is powered on.
  • Check if the correct input source is selected on the switcher and your display.
  • Try a different HDMI/VGA cable.
  • Test with a different display or source device to isolate the problem.
• No Audio Output:
  • Ensure audio cables (3.5mm or Optical) are correctly connected to your sound system.
  • Check if the audio is muted on the switcher (tap the 'Audio' button).
  • Verify your sound system is powered on and set to the correct input.
  • Confirm the source device is outputting audio.
• Remote Control Not Working:
  • Ensure there are no obstructions between the remote and the switcher's IR receiver.
  • Check the batteries in the remote control.
  • Point the remote directly at the IR receiver window.
• Picture Quality Issues (Flickering, Distortion):
  • Use shorter, high-quality HDMI cables (recommended under 10 feet).
  • Try adjusting the resolution using the 'Scaler' button on the front panel.
  • Ensure your source and display devices are compatible with the selected resolution.
