Zoeller Model M267 Waste-Mate 260 Series Sewage Pump Instruction Manual

Model: M267 | Part Number: 267-0050

1. Introduction

This manual provides essential instructions for the safe installation, operation, and maintenance of your Zoeller Model M267 Waste-Mate 260 Series Sewage Pump. This submersible pump is designed for residential or light commercial dewatering and wastewater applications, capable of transferring groundwater, effluent, or raw sewage. Its vortex impeller design helps prevent clogging and allows for the passage of 2-inch spherical solids.

2. Safety Information

Read all instructions carefully before installation and operation. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious injury, death, or property damage.

  • Always disconnect power to the pump before attempting any installation, service, or maintenance.
  • Ensure all electrical connections are made by a qualified electrician and comply with local codes and regulations.
  • Do not operate the pump in an explosive atmosphere or pump flammable liquids.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) during installation and service.
  • Ensure the pump is properly grounded to prevent electrical shock.
  • Do not lift the pump by its power cord or float switch cord. Use the integrated handle.
  • This pump is designed for water and sewage only. Do not use for other liquids.

3. Setup and Installation

3.1. Location and Sump Requirements

Install the pump in a sump pit that is adequately sized for the expected flow rate and pump dimensions. Ensure the pit is clean and free of debris before placing the pump.

3.2. Plumbing Connections

  • Connect the discharge piping to the pump's 2-inch NPT vertical discharge.
  • Use a check valve in the discharge line to prevent backflow into the sump.
  • Ensure all connections are watertight and sealed properly.

3.3. Electrical Connections

  • The pump operates on 115 Volts, 1 Phase power.
  • Connect the 10-foot, UL listed 3-wire neoprene cord and plug to a dedicated, properly grounded electrical outlet.
  • Ensure the circuit is protected by a fuse or circuit breaker of appropriate rating.
  • The pump features an oil-filled, hermetically sealed motor with automatic reset thermal overload protection.

3.4. Float Switch Adjustment

The pump is equipped with a mechanical float switch for automatic operation. The float switch is pre-set with an "On" point at approximately 12 inches and an "Off" point at approximately 4 inches. Ensure the float switch can move freely without obstruction within the sump pit.

4. Operation

The Zoeller Model M267 pump is designed for automatic operation via its mechanical float switch. Once properly installed and connected to power, the pump will activate when the water level rises to the "On" point (approximately 12 inches) and will continue to pump until the water level drops to the "Off" point (approximately 4 inches).

  • Initial Start-up: After installation, allow the sump to fill with water to the "On" level to verify proper pump operation and float switch function.
  • Continuous Monitoring: Periodically check the sump pit to ensure the pump is operating as expected and the float switch is not obstructed.

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and extends the life of your pump. Always disconnect power before performing any maintenance.

5.1. Routine Inspection (Monthly)

  • Sump Pit: Remove any debris, dirt, or foreign objects from the sump pit that could interfere with pump or float switch operation.
  • Float Switch: Manually lift and lower the float switch to ensure it moves freely and activates/deactivates the pump correctly.
  • Power Cord: Inspect the power cord for any signs of damage, fraying, or wear.

5.2. Annual Inspection

  • Impeller: If accessible, inspect the cast iron non-clogging vortex impeller for any buildup or damage. Clean as necessary.
  • Pump Housing: Check the durable cast iron pump housing and powder-coated epoxy finish for any signs of corrosion or damage. The epoxy finish is designed to prevent corrosion and provide heat dissipation.
  • Seals: Inspect the carbon and ceramic shaft seal and neoprene square ring & gasket for leaks or wear. Replacement may require professional service.

6. Troubleshooting

Before attempting any troubleshooting, always disconnect power to the pump.

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Pump does not run.No power; tripped circuit breaker; faulty float switch; motor overload.Check power supply; reset breaker; inspect float switch for obstruction; allow motor to cool (thermal overload reset).
Pump runs but does not pump water.Air lock; clogged impeller; discharge pipe obstruction; low water level.Ensure pump is fully submerged; clear impeller/discharge pipe; wait for water level to rise.
Pump runs continuously.Float switch stuck in "On" position; continuous inflow; faulty check valve.Inspect float switch for obstruction; check for continuous water source; inspect/replace check valve.
Pump cycles too frequently.Sump pit too small; float switch differential too narrow; backflow from discharge.Consult a professional for sump sizing; adjust float switch (if adjustable, or replace); inspect check valve.
