Setup and Initial Use

1. Initial Charging (Eco-Drive)

Your Eco-Drive watch is powered by light. For optimal performance, ensure the watch is adequately charged before first use. Expose the watch face to direct sunlight or bright artificial light for several hours. The power reserve indicator will show the current charge level.

  • Sunlight: Approximately 5-6 hours for a full charge from a completely depleted state.
  • Indoor Fluorescent Light: Approximately 40-50 hours for a full charge from a completely depleted state.

2. Atomic Time Synchronization

The Skyhawk A-T features atomic timekeeping, automatically synchronizing with atomic clocks in 43 cities. For best reception, place the watch near a window at night. Manual synchronization can also be initiated.

3. Band Adjustment

The stainless steel bracelet can be adjusted by adding or removing links. It is recommended to have this procedure performed by a qualified jeweler or Citizen service center to prevent damage.

Operating Instructions

This section details the operation of the various functions of your Promaster Skyhawk A-T watch.

Basic Timekeeping and Mode Selection

The watch features multiple modes accessible via the crown and pushers. Refer to the markings on the dial for mode indications (e.g., TME for Time, CHR for Chronograph, AL-1/AL-2 for Alarms).

Chronograph Function

The 1/100-second chronograph can measure up to 24 hours. To activate, switch to CHR mode. Use the pushers to start, stop, and reset the chronograph. The digital display will show the elapsed time.

Perpetual Calendar

The perpetual calendar automatically adjusts for odd/even months and leap years until February 28, 2100. Ensure the watch is correctly set to the current year and month for accurate date display.

Dual Time (Local Time / World Time)

The watch allows for the display of a second time zone (dual time). This is particularly useful for travelers. Select the desired city code for the second time zone using the appropriate controls.

Alarms (AL-1, AL-2)

Set up to two independent alarms. Navigate to AL-1 or AL-2 mode and use the pushers to set the desired alarm time. Ensure the alarm is activated after setting.

Countdown Timer (TMR)

The countdown timer can be set for specific durations. Once set and started, the watch will count down to zero and provide an alert. Useful for timing events.

Digital Backlight and UTC Displays

The digital display features a backlight for visibility in low-light conditions. The watch also provides Universal Coordinated Time (UTC) displays, essential for aviation and international timekeeping.

Power Reserve Indicator

The power reserve indicator shows the amount of charge stored in the watch's power cell. Keep the watch charged to prevent it from stopping or losing functions.

Pilot's Rotating Slide Rule Bezel

The outer rotating bezel and inner scale can be used as a slide rule for various calculations, including multiplication, division, fuel consumption, speed, and distance. Consult the detailed manual for specific calculation methods.

Maintenance

Cleaning Your Watch

Regular cleaning helps maintain the appearance and longevity of your watch. Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the case and bracelet. For stainless steel, a slightly damp cloth can be used, followed by drying. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.

Water Resistance

While the watch is designed with water resistance, it is important to check the specific water resistance rating (e.g., ATM or meters) engraved on the case back. Avoid operating pushers or the crown when the watch is wet or submerged to prevent water ingress.

Eco-Drive Charging Best Practices

To ensure continuous operation, expose your Eco-Drive watch to light regularly. Avoid prolonged storage in dark places. If the watch stops, expose it to bright light to restart and recharge it.

Storage

When not wearing the watch, store it in a location where it can receive some light, or in a watch box that allows light exposure. Avoid extreme temperatures or strong magnetic fields.

Troubleshooting

  • Watch Not Running/Stopping: Ensure the watch is adequately charged. Expose it to bright light for an extended period.
  • Incorrect Time/Date: Verify that the watch is receiving atomic time signals. If not, try manual synchronization or set the time manually. Check the city code setting for your current location.
  • Functions Not Responding: A low power reserve can affect function. Recharge the watch. If issues persist, a reset procedure may be necessary (refer to the full manual for specific reset steps).
  • Digital Display Issues: Ensure sufficient charge. If the display is dim or blank, it may indicate low power.

For persistent issues, contact Citizen customer support or a certified service center.
