Setup and Installation

This expansion set is designed to integrate with your existing Premier Pet In-Ground Fence system (specifically Model #GIG00-16349) or compatible PetSafe In-Ground Fences.

1. Planning Your Expanded Boundary

Before laying the new wire, plan the desired expansion area. Consider the layout of your yard and any obstacles. The wire can be used to create an entire yard boundary or to protect specific areas within your property.

2. Connecting the New Wire

  1. Locate the existing boundary wire where you intend to expand.
  2. Carefully cut the existing wire at the desired connection point.
  3. Strip approximately 1/2 inch of insulation from the ends of the existing wire and the new expansion wire.
  4. Twist the exposed copper ends of one existing wire and one new wire together. Secure this connection with a wire nut.
  5. Insert the wire nut connection into a waterproof splice capsule. Close the capsule securely to protect the connection from moisture.
  6. Repeat the process for the other end of the cut existing wire and the remaining end of the new expansion wire.

3. Laying the Boundary Wire

The 20-gauge wire can be buried or laid on the ground, depending on your preference and local regulations. For best results and protection, burying the wire is recommended. Ensure the wire forms a continuous loop back to your fence transmitter.

Refer to the wire chart below to estimate the total wire needed for various acreage sizes. This expansion set provides 500 feet of wire, which can be added to your existing system's length.

4. Placing Boundary Flags

Use the provided 50 boundary flags to mark the new perimeter of your expanded fence. Place flags approximately 10-15 feet apart along the entire boundary. These flags serve as visual cues for your pet during training and help you identify the boundary line.

Operating the System

Once the expansion wire is installed and connected, your in-ground fence system will operate as before, but with the extended boundary. Ensure your fence transmitter is powered on and functioning correctly. The system will emit a warning tone as your pet approaches the boundary, followed by a static correction if they cross it.

Note: Proper training of your pet is crucial for effective use of the in-ground fence system. Refer to your original in-ground fence manual for detailed training instructions.

Maintenance

  • Wire Inspection: Periodically inspect the entire length of your boundary wire, including the newly installed sections and splice points, for any signs of damage or wear. Damaged wire can lead to signal loss.
  • Flag Maintenance: Replace any lost or damaged boundary flags to maintain clear visual cues for your pet.
  • Splice Capsules: Ensure splice capsules remain securely closed and free of debris to protect wire connections from moisture.

Troubleshooting

If your in-ground fence system experiences issues after installing the expansion set, consider the following:

  • No Signal/Intermittent Signal:
    • Check all wire connections, especially the new splice points, to ensure they are secure and waterproof.
    • Inspect the entire wire loop for breaks or damage. Even small nicks can disrupt the signal.
    • Ensure the fence transmitter is powered on and functioning correctly.
  • Pet Crossing Boundary:
    • Verify that the boundary flags are correctly placed and visible.
    • Re-evaluate your pet's training. Consistent training is key to their understanding of the boundary.
    • Check the collar receiver's battery and fit.
