3. Setup and Installation
3.1 Connecting the Phone
- Unpack the Phone: Carefully remove all components from the packaging.
- Connect the Handset: Plug one end of the coiled cord into the handset and the other end into the handset jack on the side of the phone base.
- Connect the Line Cord: Plug one end of the telephone line cord (RJ11) into the jack labeled 'LINE' on the back of the phone base. Plug the other end into your telephone wall jack.
- Verify Connection: Lift the handset. You should hear a dial tone, indicating a successful connection.
3.2 Wall Mounting (Optional)
The Alcatel T-56 can be wall-mounted for flexible placement. Use the provided wall mount bracket and screws (if included) to secure the phone to a suitable wall surface. Ensure the telephone line cord is long enough to reach the wall jack.

4. Basic Operation
4.1 Making Calls
- Lift the handset or press the Handsfree button.
- Listen for a dial tone.
- Dial the desired telephone number using the keypad.
- To end the call, replace the handset or press the Handsfree button again.
4.2 Receiving Calls
- When the phone rings, lift the handset or press the Handsfree button to answer.
- To end the call, replace the handset or press the Handsfree button.
4.3 Using Handsfree Function
To use the handsfree speakerphone:
- During a call, press the Handsfree button to activate the speakerphone. The handset can be placed back on the cradle.
- To switch back to the handset, lift the handset.
- To end a handsfree call, press the Handsfree button again.
4.4 Adjusting Volume
- Handsfree Volume: Use the volume control buttons (up/down arrows) during a handsfree call to adjust the speaker volume. There are 3 adjustable levels.
- Ringer Volume: The ringer volume can be set to High, Low, or Off. Refer to the phone's settings menu (if available) or a dedicated switch for adjustment.
4.5 Redialing
To redial the last number called, lift the handset or press Handsfree, then press the Redial button. The phone stores the last 5 dialed numbers.
4.6 Mute Function
During a call, press the Mute button to temporarily disable your microphone. The other party will not hear you, but you can still hear them. Press Mute again to resume speaking.

5.1 Caller ID Display
When an incoming call is received, the caller's number (and name, if available and subscribed to Caller ID service) will be displayed on the LCD screen. The display also shows the date and time in standby mode.
5.2 Storing Speed Dial Numbers
The Alcatel T-56 supports both direct and two-touch memory dialing:
