1. Introduction
The OSRAM Encelium SCP-1500 is a 24V ceiling-mount Passive Infrared (PIR) occupancy sensor designed for efficient lighting control. This sensor detects motion within its coverage area, automatically controlling connected lighting or other systems to save energy. It features a 360-degree sensing angle and a maximum coverage range of 1500 feet, making it suitable for various commercial and industrial applications.
This manual provides detailed instructions for the installation, operation, and maintenance of your SCP-1500 sensor.
2. Safety Information
- Electrical Hazard: Installation must be performed by a qualified electrician in accordance with all national and local electrical codes.
- Disconnect power at the circuit breaker or fuse before installing or servicing the sensor.
- Ensure the power supply is 24V as specified. Connecting to an incorrect voltage may damage the device and pose a safety risk.
- Do not install in locations with excessive vibration, extreme temperatures, or high humidity.
- This device is intended for indoor use only.
3. Package Contents
Verify that all items are present before beginning installation:
- OSRAM Encelium SCP-1500 PIR Occupancy Sensor Unit
- Mounting Hardware (screws, anchors)
- User Manual (this document)
4. Setup and Installation
4.1 Pre-installation Considerations
- A 24 Volt power pack is required for operation (not included).
- The sensor is designed for ceiling mount installation. Choose a central location within the desired coverage area, free from obstructions.
- Avoid mounting near HVAC vents, windows, or other sources of rapid temperature changes, as these can cause false triggers.
- Ensure the mounting surface is stable and can support the sensor's weight.
4.2 Mounting the Sensor
- Disconnect Power: Before starting, ensure power to the installation area is turned off at the circuit breaker.
- Select Location: Identify the optimal ceiling location for 360-degree coverage.
- Prepare Wiring: Route the 24V low-voltage wiring from the power pack to the chosen mounting location.
- Secure Base: Use the provided mounting hardware to securely attach the sensor's base to the ceiling.
- Wire Connections: Connect the 24V power and control wires to the sensor terminals as per the wiring diagram provided with your power pack or system controller. Ensure correct polarity.
- Attach Sensor Body: Once wiring is complete and secure, attach the main sensor body to the mounted base, typically by twisting or snapping it into place.
- Restore Power: After installation is complete and all connections are secure, restore power to the circuit.

5. Operation
The OSRAM Encelium SCP-1500 sensor operates using Passive Infrared (PIR) technology to detect changes in infrared radiation caused by human movement. When motion is detected within its 360-degree coverage area (up to 1500 feet), the sensor signals the connected lighting control system to activate or maintain lighting.
- Automatic Activation: Upon detecting occupancy, the sensor will signal the connected system to turn on lights or other controlled devices.
- Occupancy Hold: As long as occupancy is detected, the sensor will maintain the active state.
- Automatic Deactivation: After a period of no detected motion (determined by the connected control system's settings), the sensor will signal the system to turn off lights or devices.
Note: Specific delay times and sensitivity adjustments are typically configured through the connected Encelium lighting control system, not directly on the SCP-1500 sensor itself. Refer to your Encelium system documentation for configuration details.
6. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Periodically clean the sensor lens with a soft, dry cloth to ensure optimal performance. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Inspection: Regularly inspect the sensor for any physical damage or loose connections.
- Obstructions: Ensure that the sensor's field of view remains unobstructed by new fixtures, furniture, or other objects.
Always disconnect power before performing any maintenance.
7. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Sensor not detecting motion. |
|
|
| Lights turn on/off unexpectedly (false triggers). |
|
|
| Sensor is powered but lights do not respond. |
