3. Setup
3.1 Initial Charging
Your Eco-Drive watch is powered by light. Before initial use, or if the watch has stopped, expose it to bright light for several hours to ensure it is fully charged. A full charge provides approximately 210 days of power reserve.
- Place the watch face up under a fluorescent lamp (approx. 500 lux) for at least 11 hours, or direct sunlight (approx. 10,000 lux) for at least 3 hours.
- Avoid placing the watch too close to a light source, as this can cause excessive heat and damage.
3.2 Setting the Time and Date
- Pull out the crown: Gently pull the crown (located on the right side of the watch) out to the second click position. The second hand will stop.
- Set the time: Rotate the crown to move the hour and minute hands. Ensure the 12/24 hour hand is also correctly set (it moves in conjunction with the hour hand).
- Set the date: Push the crown in one click to the first click position. Rotate the crown to adjust the date. Avoid setting the date between 9:00 PM and 1:00 AM, as this may damage the date mechanism.
- Push in the crown: Once the time and date are set, push the crown back into the normal position. The second hand will resume movement.
3.3 Adjusting the Bracelet
The stainless steel bracelet may require adjustment for a comfortable fit. It is recommended to have this adjustment performed by a qualified jeweler or watch technician to prevent damage to the bracelet or watch.

4. Operating the Watch
4.1 Basic Timekeeping
The watch continuously displays hours, minutes, and seconds. The 12/24 hour subdial indicates the current time in a 24-hour format, synchronized with the main hour hand.
4.2 Using the Chronograph
The chronograph function allows for precise measurement of elapsed time up to 60 minutes in 1/5 second increments.
- Start: Press the upper pusher (button A) to start the chronograph. The chronograph second hand will begin moving.
- Stop: Press the upper pusher (button A) again to stop the chronograph. The elapsed time will be indicated by the chronograph second hand and minute subdial.
- Reset: Press the lower pusher (button B) to reset the chronograph. All chronograph hands will return to their zero positions.
- Split Time: While the chronograph is running, press the lower pusher (button B) to measure a split time. The chronograph hands will stop to show the split time. Press button B again to release the split time and allow the chronograph to catch up to the ongoing elapsed time.
4.3 Using the Tachymeter
The tachymeter scale on the bezel can be used to calculate speed over a known distance (e.g., 1 mile or 1 kilometer). Start the chronograph at the beginning of the distance and stop it at the end. The number on the tachymeter scale corresponding to where the chronograph second hand points indicates the average speed in units per hour.
4.4 Water Resistance Guidelines
This watch is water resistant to 200 meters (WR200). This means it is suitable for showering, swimming, and snorkeling. However, it is not suitable for scuba diving. To maintain water resistance:
- Ensure the crown is fully pushed in before exposing the watch to water.
- Do not operate the crown or pushers while the watch is wet or submerged.
- Avoid exposing the watch to hot water, steam, or sudden temperature changes, as this can compromise seals.
- After exposure to saltwater, rinse the watch with fresh water and dry it thoroughly.
5. Maintenance
5.1 Charging Your Eco-Drive Watch
To ensure continuous operation, regularly expose your watch to light. If the watch is stored in darkness for extended periods, it may stop. The watch features a low charge indicator (the second hand moves in two-second intervals) to alert you when charging is needed.
- Daily Exposure: Wear your watch regularly or place it in a location with ambient light.
- Full Charge: For a full charge, expose the watch to bright light (e.g., direct sunlight or a strong artificial light source) for several hours.
5.2 Cleaning
Wipe the watch case and bracelet periodically with a soft, dry cloth to remove dirt and perspiration. For stainless steel bracelets, a slightly damp cloth can be used, followed by a dry cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
5.3 Periodic Inspection
It is recommended to have your watch inspected by an authorized Citizen service center every 2-3 years to check the water resistance seals and overall condition, especially if it is frequently exposed to water.
6. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Watch has stopped or second hand moves in 2-second intervals. | Insufficient charge. | Expose the watch to bright light for several hours to fully charge. |
| Time is incorrect. | Time not set correctly or watch has stopped due to low charge. | Refer to Section 3.2 "Setting the Time and Date" and ensure the watch is adequately charged. |
| Chronograph hands do not reset to zero. | Chronograph reset not performed correctly or hands are misaligned. | Perform a chronograph reset (press button B). If misalignment persists, consult a service center for hand position adjustment. |
| Condensation inside the crystal. | Compromised water resistance or exposure to extreme temperature changes. | Immediately take the watch to an authorized service center for inspection and repair to prevent internal damage. |
