Setup and Installation

Before beginning installation, ensure the vehicle's battery is disconnected to prevent electrical shorts or damage.

  1. Remove Factory Radio: Carefully remove the existing factory radio from the dashboard. Refer to your vehicle's service manual for specific instructions on dash disassembly and radio removal.
  2. Identify Factory Harness: Locate the factory wiring harness that was connected to the back of the original radio.
  3. Connect New Harness: Plug the multi-pin connector of the UpStart Components wiring harness directly into the vehicle's factory wiring harness. This connection is designed to be plug-and-play, requiring no cutting or splicing on the vehicle's side.
  4. Wire Aftermarket Stereo: Connect the individual color-coded wires of the UpStart Components harness to the corresponding wires on your aftermarket car stereo's wiring harness. The multi-colored wires are designed for foolproof installation. Refer to your aftermarket stereo's wiring diagram for correct connections. Common wire functions include:
    • Yellow: Constant 12V (Memory/Battery)
    • Red: Switched 12V (Accessory/Ignition)
    • Black: Ground
    • Orange: Illumination/Dash Light
    • Blue: Power Antenna/Amplifier Turn-On
    • White/White-Black: Front Left Speaker (+/-)
    • Gray/Gray-Black: Front Right Speaker (+/-)
    • Green/Green-Black: Rear Left Speaker (+/-)
    • Purple/Purple-Black: Rear Right Speaker (+/-)
  5. Secure Connections: Ensure all connections are secure, preferably using crimp connectors or solder and heat shrink tubing for reliable electrical contact.
  6. Test System: Before fully reassembling the dash, reconnect the vehicle's battery and test the aftermarket stereo's functionality (power, audio, balance, fade).
  7. Reassemble Dash: Once confirmed working, carefully reassemble the dashboard components and secure the new stereo in place.

Note: This harness is NOT for use on "Factory Amplified" Sound Systems. Some functions like Steering Wheel Controls, speed sense, etc., may not be supported by this harness and may require additional adapters (sold separately).

Operating Considerations

Once installed, the wiring harness operates passively, providing the necessary electrical connections between your vehicle's factory wiring and your aftermarket stereo. Its primary function is to ensure proper power delivery and audio signal transmission without modification to the vehicle's original wiring.

The operation of your car stereo will depend on the features and controls of the aftermarket unit itself. This harness facilitates the electrical interface, allowing the stereo to function as designed.

Maintenance

The UpStart Components Radio Wiring Harness requires no routine maintenance. It is designed for a long service life once properly installed.

  • Ensure all connections made during installation are secure and free from corrosion.
  • Avoid exposing the harness to excessive moisture or extreme temperatures beyond typical automotive conditions.
  • Do not attempt to modify the harness, as this may void its warranty and could lead to electrical issues.

Troubleshooting
