3. Setup
3.1. Initial Charging
Your Citizen Eco-Drive watch is powered by light. Before initial use, or if the watch has stopped, ensure it is fully charged. Expose the watch dial to a bright light source (natural sunlight is ideal) for several hours. The watch will begin operating once sufficient charge is accumulated. A full charge can provide a power reserve of up to 6 months, even in darkness.

3.2. Setting Time and Date (Caliber E111)
- Pull out the crown: Gently pull the crown (the knob on the side of the watch) out to the first click position to set the date, or to the second click position to set the time.
- Set the date: In the first click position, turn the crown clockwise or counter-clockwise until the correct date appears in the date window. Avoid setting the date between 9:00 PM and 1:00 AM, as this may interfere with the automatic date change mechanism.
- Set the time: In the second click position, turn the crown to move the hour and minute hands. To ensure accurate time setting, it is recommended to set the minute hand a few minutes past the desired time and then turn it back.
- Push in the crown: Once the time and date are set, push the crown back into its normal position. The second hand will begin to move, indicating the watch is operating.
4. Operating the Watch
4.1. Basic Timekeeping
The watch displays hours, minutes, and seconds using three central hands. The date is shown in a window on the dial. Ensure the watch is regularly exposed to light to maintain its charge and accurate operation.
4.2. Water Resistance
This watch is water resistant to 100 meters (330 feet). This rating makes it suitable for everyday use, including showering, swimming, and snorkeling. It is not recommended for scuba diving. Always ensure the crown is fully pushed in before exposing the watch to water.
5. Maintenance
5.1. Cleaning
To maintain the appearance of your watch, wipe the case and bracelet regularly with a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn dirt, a slightly damp cloth can be used, followed by drying. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials, as these can damage the Super Titanium™ finish and sapphire crystal.
5.2. Maintaining Power Reserve
For optimal performance, ensure your Eco-Drive watch is regularly exposed to light. If stored in darkness for extended periods, the power reserve may deplete, causing the watch to stop. To reactivate, expose it to bright light. The watch features a low charge indicator (second hand moves in two-second intervals) to alert you when charging is needed.
6. Troubleshooting
- Watch has stopped: This indicates a low power reserve. Expose the watch to bright light for several hours to recharge.
- Second hand moves in two-second intervals: This is the low charge warning function. Recharge the watch immediately by exposing it to light.
- Date does not change at midnight: Ensure the time is set correctly for AM/PM. If the date changes at noon, the watch is set for PM instead of AM. Adjust the time by 12 hours.
- Inaccurate timekeeping: After ensuring the watch is fully charged, if timekeeping remains inaccurate, consult the Citizen service center.
