  2. Slide Out the Internal Tray: Carefully slide the internal metal tray out from the aluminum casing.
  3. Insert Your 5.25" Drive: Align your 5.25-inch SATA Blu-Ray, CD, or DVD drive with the internal tray. Ensure the SATA data and power connectors on your drive face the corresponding connectors on the tray's circuit board.
  4. Connect SATA Cables: Firmly connect the SATA data and power connectors from the enclosure's circuit board to your optical drive. Ensure a secure connection.
  5. Align and Secure the Drive: Position the optical drive so that its screw holes align with the mounting holes on the internal tray. Use the provided installation screws to secure the drive firmly to the tray.
  6. Slide Tray Back into Enclosure: Carefully slide the assembled tray with the optical drive back into the aluminum casing. Ensure it slides smoothly and is fully seated.

Operating Instructions

  1. Connect Power: Connect the provided AC adapter to the DC input port on the rear of the NexStar DX enclosure, then plug the adapter into a power outlet.
  2. Connect to Computer: Connect one end of the supplied USB 3.0 cable to the USB 3.0 Type-B port on the rear of the enclosure and the other end to an available USB 3.0 port on your computer.
  3. Power On: Flip the power switch on the rear of the enclosure to the "ON" position. The enclosure's LED indicator should illuminate.
  4. Automatic Detection: Your computer should automatically detect and install the necessary drivers for the optical drive. No additional software installation is typically required for Windows or macOS.
  5. Using the Drive: Once detected, your optical drive will appear as a removable storage device in your operating system. You can now insert Blu-Ray, CD, or DVD discs for reading or writing, depending on your installed drive's capabilities.

Important Note: The enclosure requires a connection to a working computer system to power on. If not connected, it may remain in a sleep mode or appear to be non-functional. Ensure it is connected to a computer via USB for proper operation.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the enclosure. Avoid using liquid cleaners or solvents, as they may damage the finish or internal components.
  • Ventilation: Ensure the enclosure is placed in a well-ventilated area to prevent overheating, especially during extended use. Do not block any ventilation openings.
  • Handling: Handle the enclosure with care. Avoid dropping it or subjecting it to strong impacts, which could damage the internal optical drive or the enclosure itself.
  • Storage: When not in use for extended periods, disconnect the power adapter and USB cable. Store the enclosure in a cool, dry place.

Troubleshooting

Enclosure does not power on:
  • Ensure the AC adapter is securely connected to both the enclosure and a working power outlet.
  • Verify the power switch on the rear of the enclosure is in the "ON" position.
  • Confirm the USB cable is connected to a computer. The enclosure requires a USB connection to a host system to fully power on and exit sleep mode.
  • Test with a different power outlet or USB port on your computer.
Optical drive not detected by computer:
  • Check all internal SATA data and power connections to the optical drive to ensure they are secure.
  • Ensure the USB cable is firmly connected to both the enclosure and your computer's USB 3.0 port.
  • Try connecting the enclosure to a different USB port on your computer.
  • Verify that the optical drive itself is functional by testing it in another system if possible.
  • For Windows users, check Device Manager for any unrecognized devices or driver issues. For macOS users, check System Information.
Slow data transfer speeds:
  • Ensure the enclosure is connected to a USB 3.0 port on your computer. Connecting to a USB 2.0 port will result in slower speeds.
  • Verify that your optical drive supports the desired transfer speeds.
  • Avoid using long or uncertified USB extension cables.
