Operating

The Moen GXP50C is a continuous feed garbage disposal, meaning it grinds food waste as long as the unit is powered on. It features a powerful 0.5 HP Vortex™ motor with 2,600 RPM, designed for fast and efficient grinding of everyday food scraps like celery, potato peels, and seeds, significantly reducing disposal jamming.

  2. Turn on the disposal unit.
  3. Scrape food waste into the disposal opening. Avoid large bones, fibrous materials like corn husks, and non-food items.
  4. Allow the disposal to run until all food waste is cleared and only the sound of water and the motor is heard.
  5. Turn off the disposal, then turn off the water.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance helps ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Moen garbage disposal. The unit features an exclusive 360° Clean Rinse system that helps eliminate odors by directing water flow around the entire grinding chamber, preventing food scraps from accumulating.

Cleaning and Care:

  • Splash Guard: The splash guard is removable for easy cleaning. Turn off the disposal and remove the splash guard to clean any accumulated debris.
  • Odor Control: To combat odors, grind citrus peels (lemon, lime, orange) or a handful of ice cubes. The ice cubes help dislodge food particles and clean the grinding chamber.
  • Regular Flushing: Always run cold water for a few seconds after turning off the disposal to ensure all particles are flushed through the drain.

Troubleshooting

If your garbage disposal encounters an issue, refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:

  • Unit Not Starting: Check if the unit is properly plugged in. Press the red reset button located on the bottom of the disposal. If the motor hums but does not grind, turn off the power, then use the jam-clearing wrench (included) or an Allen wrench to turn the motor shaft from the bottom center hole.
  • Leaking: Inspect all plumbing connections for tightness. Check the sink flange for proper sealing. If the leak is from the bottom of the unit, it may indicate an internal seal failure, requiring professional service or replacement.
  • Excessive Noise: Ensure no foreign objects (e.g., silverware) have fallen into the grinding chamber. Turn off the power and carefully remove any obstructions.
  • Slow Grinding/Clogging: Ensure sufficient cold water is running during operation. Avoid overloading the disposal with large quantities of food waste at once.
