4. Setup and Installation
This doorbell button is designed for simple surface mounting. The doorbell wire is not included.
4.1 Before You Begin
- Turn off power: Locate your home's circuit breaker and turn off the power to your doorbell system.
- Gather tools: You will need a screwdriver (Phillips or flathead, depending on your existing screws), and potentially a drill if new holes are required.
4.2 Mounting the Doorbell Button
- Remove old button (if applicable): Carefully remove your existing doorbell button. Disconnect the wires.
- Position the new button: Place the Newhouse Hardware BT1W button in the desired location. If replacing an old button, the existing screw holes may align, eliminating the need for new drilling.
- Secure the button: Use the provided screws to firmly attach the doorbell button to the wall surface (e.g., stucco or wood).

Figure 4: The doorbell button can often be installed as a replacement without drilling new holes.
4.3 Wiring Instructions
- Connect wires: Connect the two doorbell wires from your home's wiring to the terminals on the back of the Newhouse Hardware BT1W button. The button is non-polarized, so the order of the wires does not matter.
- Ensure secure connections: Tighten the terminal screws to ensure a secure electrical connection.
- Restore power: Once wiring is complete and the button is securely mounted, restore power at the circuit breaker.
IMPORTANT NOTE ON DIODES:
- If you are using a digital chime (one that plays a melody or has a speaker for sound), a diode is required for proper operation. This diode is not included and must be purchased separately.
- If you are using a mechanical doorbell chime (one that produces a two-note sound, like a small mallet hitting a metal bar), a diode is NOT needed.
