4. Maintenance
4.1 Cleaning the Water Reservoir
The removable 70 oz water reservoir should be cleaned regularly.
- Remove the water reservoir from the brewer.
- Wash with warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly.
- Do not use abrasive cleaners or scrubbers.
- Ensure the reservoir is completely dry before refilling and reattaching.
4.2 Descaling
Descaling is essential to remove calcium deposits that can build up over time and affect brewer performance. The brewer will remind you to descale.
- Turn off the brewer.
- Empty the water reservoir.
- Pour a full bottle of Keurig Descaling Solution into the water reservoir.
- Fill the empty bottle with water and pour it into the reservoir.
- Place a large mug on the drip tray.
- Perform a cleansing brew cycle (without a K-Cup pod) until the reservoir is empty.
- Let the brewer stand for at least 30 minutes.
- Rinse the reservoir thoroughly and fill with fresh water.
- Perform at least 12 cleansing brew cycles with fresh water to ensure all descaling solution is flushed out.
4.3 Water Filter Replacement
The Keurig K475 includes a water filter handle and two filters. Replace the water filter every 2 months or 60 tank refills for best results.
5. Troubleshooting
5.1 No Brew or Partial Brew
- Check Water Level: Ensure the water reservoir is filled above the minimum line.
- K-Cup Pod Placement: Verify the K-Cup pod is correctly seated in the holder and the handle is fully lowered.
- Descaling Needed: Mineral buildup can restrict water flow. Perform a descaling cycle.
5.2 Weak Coffee
- Brew Size: Select a smaller brew size for a stronger cup.
- Strength Control: Activate the 'Strong' brew setting on the touch screen.
- K-Cup Pod Type: Try a K-Cup pod with a darker roast or higher intensity.
5.3 "Exploding" K-Cups or Grounds in Coffee
- Overfilling: Ensure you are not overfilling reusable K-Cups.
- Powdered Drinks: Avoid using powdered coffees, ciders, or hot cocoa directly in the K-Cup pod holder. These can clog the internal piping. Instead, empty the powder into your mug and use the brewer to dispense hot water.
- Needle Clog: The brewer's needles may be clogged. Refer to the full user manual for instructions on cleaning the entry and exit needles.
