Setup
1. Connecting to a Speaker Cabinet
The 6505 MH features an impedance switch on the rear panel, allowing selection between 8 or 16 ohm cabinets. Ensure the switch matches the impedance of your speaker cabinet. Always connect a speaker cabinet to the "SPEAKER" output before powering on the amplifier. Operating the amplifier without a proper speaker load can cause damage.

2. Power Connection
Connect the supplied power cable to the IEC inlet on the rear panel and then to a grounded electrical outlet. The amplifier supports 115V and 220-230V operation, selectable via a switch next to the power inlet. Ensure the voltage selector is set correctly for your region.
3. Footswitch Connection
Connect the included footswitch to the "FOOTSWITCH" jack on the rear panel. This allows remote control of channel switching, crunch mode, and reverb.

Front Panel Controls

- Input: Standard 1/4" input for your guitar.
- Channel Select: Toggles between the Rhythm and Lead channels. Can also be controlled via footswitch.
- Pre-Gain (Rhythm/Lead): Controls the input gain for each channel, affecting distortion and sustain.
- Crunch (Rhythm Channel): A footswitchable feature on the Rhythm channel that adds an additional gain stage for a crunchier tone.
- Equalization (Low, Mid, High): Shared 3-band EQ for both channels to shape the tone.
- Post-Gain (Rhythm/Lead): Controls the output volume for each channel.
- Reverb: Adjusts the amount of built-in digital reverb. Footswitchable.
- Resonance: Controls the damping factor of the power amplifier, affecting low-end response.
- Presence: Controls the damping factor of the power amplifier, affecting high-end response.
- Standby Switch: Places the amplifier in standby mode, keeping the tubes warm without signal amplification. Always use this switch when taking short breaks.
- Power Switch: Turns the amplifier on or off.
- T.S.I. (Tube Status Indication): LEDs indicate the health of the power tubes. Green indicates normal operation, while red indicates a tube issue.

- Attenuator Switch (20W, 5W, 1W): Selects the output power level, allowing for lower volume operation while maintaining tube saturation.
- Speaker Defeat Switch: Disables the speaker output, useful for silent practice with headphones or direct recording via MSDI/USB without a speaker cabinet connected.
- MSDI Output (Mic Simulated Direct Interface): XLR output with ground lift switch for direct connection to a mixing console or audio interface. Provides a mic-simulated signal.
- USB Output: Connects to a computer for direct recording.
- Effects Loop (Send/Return): Allows connection of external effects pedals or processors after the preamp section and before the power amp.
Powering On and Off Sequence
- Ensure a speaker cabinet is connected (unless using speaker defeat).
- Flip the Power switch to the ON position.
- Wait approximately 30-60 seconds for the tubes to warm up.
- Flip the Standby switch to the ON position. The amplifier is now ready for use.
- To power off, first flip the Standby switch to the OFF position.
- Wait a few seconds, then flip the Power switch to the OFF position.
Maintenance
Tube Replacement
The Peavey 6505 MH uses 2x EL84 power tubes and 3x 12AX7/ECC83 preamp tubes. The T.S.I. circuit provides an indication of power tube health. If a T.S.I. LED turns red, it indicates a potential issue with the corresponding power tube. Tube replacement should be performed by qualified service personnel to ensure proper biasing and safe operation. - Check speaker cabinet impedance match.
- Overheating:
- Ensure adequate ventilation around the amplifier.
- Avoid operating in direct sunlight or enclosed spaces.
- If persistent, this may indicate a bias issue or component failure, requiring professional service.
- Footswitch Not Working:
- Ensure the footswitch cable is securely connected.
- Test the functions manually using the front panel switches to isolate the issue.
