Product Overview

SEM Color Coat is a specialized elastomeric coating designed to restore or change the color of most vinyl surfaces, flexible and rigid plastics, carpet, and velour. This product is not a dye; it is a fade-resistant, flexible, and permanent coating.

It is formulated to provide a durable finish that integrates with the material, offering a renewed appearance without cracking or peeling when properly applied.

Preparation and Setup

Proper surface preparation is crucial for optimal adhesion and durability of SEM Color Coat. Follow these steps carefully:

Surface Cleaning:

• For Vinyl: Use SEM Soap (Part No. 39362) followed by Vinyl Prep (Part No. 38343) or Zero VOC Surface Cleaner (Part No. 40404).
• For Plastic: Apply an appropriate adhesion promoter. Do not use more than one product on the same job. Recommended products include Plastic Adhesion Promoter (Part No. 38363) or XXX Adhesion Promoter (Part No. 7723).

Ensure the surface is clean, dry, and free of any contaminants like grease, oil, or silicone before application.

Operating Instructions (Application)

Once the surface is prepared, proceed with the application of SEM Color Coat:

1. Shake Can: Shake the aerosol can thoroughly for at least one minute after the mixing ball begins to rattle. Continue shaking periodically during application.
2. Application Distance: Hold the can approximately 6-8 inches (15-20 cm) from the surface to be coated.
3. Apply Light Coats: Apply multiple light, even coats. Avoid applying heavy coats to prevent runs or uneven coverage.
4. Drying Time Between Coats: Allow 5-10 minutes of drying time between each coat. Apply additional coats until the desired hiding and color depth are achieved.

Maintenance

Once applied and fully cured, SEM Color Coat is a durable and fade-resistant finish. To maintain its appearance, clean the coated surface with mild soap and water. Avoid harsh abrasives or strong chemical cleaners, as these may damage the coating.

Troubleshooting

Most application issues can be prevented by following the preparation and application instructions carefully. If issues arise:

• Poor Adhesion: Often caused by inadequate surface cleaning or improper use of adhesion promoter. Ensure surfaces are thoroughly cleaned and prepped as per instructions.
• Uneven Finish/Runs: Typically results from applying coats too heavily or not allowing sufficient drying time between coats. Apply lighter, multiple coats.
• Color Mismatch: Ensure the correct product color was selected for the intended application.

General Precautions:

• Keep away from heat, sparks, open flames, and hot surfaces. No smoking.
• Pressurized container: Do not pierce or burn, even after use.

• Wash thoroughly after handling.
• Store locked up. Keep cool. Protect from sunlight. Do not expose to temperatures exceeding 50°C (122°F).
• Dispose of contents/container in accordance with local, regional, national, and international regulations.

First Aid:

• IF IN EYES: Rinse cautiously with water for several minutes. Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing.
• IF INHALED: Supply fresh air. Consult a doctor if case of complaints.
• IF ON SKIN: Wash with water and soap and rinse thoroughly.
• IF SWALLOWED: Do NOT induce vomiting. Consult a doctor immediately.
