Operating the Grill

Charcoal Loading

Place charcoal on the charcoal grate at the bottom of the bowl. The hinged cooking grate allows for easy addition of charcoal during grilling without removing the entire grate.

Temperature Control (Dampers)

The grill features rust-resistant aluminum dampers on both the lid and the bottom bowl. These dampers regulate airflow, which directly controls the cooking temperature. Open dampers increase airflow and temperature, while closing them reduces airflow and temperature.

General Care

  • Clean the cooking grate after each use with a grill brush.
  • Wipe down the porcelain-enameled lid and bowl with a damp cloth to remove grease and residue.
  • Periodically check and tighten all fasteners.
  • Store the grill in a dry, covered area when not in use to protect it from the elements.

Troubleshooting

This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your charcoal grill.

Temperature Control Issues

  • Problem: Grill not reaching desired temperature.
Solution: Ensure dampers are fully open for maximum airflow. Check charcoal quantity and quality. Use a chimney starter for consistent ignition.
  • Problem: Temperature too high.
Solution: Partially close the top and bottom dampers to reduce airflow.

Ash Buildup

  • Problem: Ash catcher overflowing or difficult to empty.
Solution: Empty the ash catcher regularly, ideally after each use once the grill has cooled. Ensure the One-Touch cleaning system is functioning correctly to sweep ash into the catcher.

Lid Not Sealing Properly

  • Problem: Smoke escaping from around the lid.
Solution: Check for any debris on the rim of the bowl or lid that might prevent a tight seal. Ensure the lid is seated correctly.
