3. Installation and Setup
Follow these steps for proper installation of your Hydronix ICF-10 inline water filter. Ensure all connections are secure to prevent leaks.
Important Notes Before Installation:
- Do not use with water that is microbiologically unsafe or of unknown quality without adequate disinfection before or after the unit.
- Observe the FLOW DIRECTION on the filter label.
- For threaded connections, wrap Teflon tape around the male threaded end into the fitting until it bottoms.
- Turn on water slowly and check for leaks. If leaks persist, turn off water and re-tighten connections.
- Flush filter for 10 minutes before use to remove carbon fines.
Installation Steps:
- Prepare for Replacement: If replacing an old filter, turn off the water supply to the system. Relieve any pressure in the lines. Remove the tubing from both ends of the old filter.
- Remove Old Fittings (if applicable): If your old filter used threaded fittings, remove them from both ends after detaching the tubing.
- Prepare New Filter: Unwrap the new Hydronix ICF-10 filter. If using threaded fittings, clean the threads on the fittings and apply new Teflon tape.
- Install Fittings: Install the appropriate threaded fittings (if not already integrated) onto both ends of the new filter. Ensure they are tightened securely but do not overtighten.
- Connect Tubing: Insert the water supply tubing approximately 1/2 inch into the fittings on both ends of the filter. Ensure the tubing is fully seated and secure. Pay attention to the flow direction indicated on the filter.
- Flush and Check for Leaks: Slowly turn on the water supply. Allow water to flow through the filter for at least 10 minutes to flush out any carbon fines. During this flushing period, carefully check all connections for any signs of leaks. If leaks are observed, turn off the water, re-tighten the connections, and re-check.

4. Operation
Once installed and flushed, the Hydronix ICF-10 filter operates automatically as water flows through your system. It requires no manual intervention during normal use.
- Ensure the water supply is consistently on for continuous filtration.
- The filter is designed for cold water applications only, with a maximum temperature of 100°F (38°C).
- Maintain water pressure within the specified range of 125 PSI (8.6 BAR) maximum.
5. Maintenance
Regular maintenance, primarily filter replacement, is crucial to ensure optimal performance and water quality.
Filter Replacement:
- The Hydronix ICF-10 filter has a service life of 2,000 gallons or one year, whichever comes first.
- Replace the filter when the rated capacity is reached or when a noticeable decrease in water flow or quality (taste/odor) occurs.
- Refer to the "Installation and Setup" section for detailed steps on replacing the filter.
Cleaning:
The filter itself does not require cleaning. It is a disposable component that should be replaced at the end of its service life.
6. Troubleshooting
This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your Hydronix ICF-10 filter.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Water Leaks at Connections | Loose fittings, improperly seated tubing, damaged O-rings/threads. | Turn off water supply. Re-tighten fittings. Ensure tubing is fully inserted. Inspect O-rings/threads for damage and replace if necessary. Apply new Teflon tape to threaded connections. |
| Reduced Water Flow | Filter is clogged or at end of service life, kinked tubing, low water pressure. | Replace the filter if it has reached its capacity or if flow is significantly reduced. Check tubing for kinks. Verify adequate incoming water pressure. |
| Bad Taste or Odor in Water | Filter is exhausted and needs replacement, initial carbon fines not fully flushed. | Replace the filter. If newly installed, flush the filter for a longer period (e.g., 15-20 minutes) to ensure all carbon fines are removed. |
| Black Particles in Water (initial setup) | Carbon fines from the new filter. | This is normal during initial setup. Continue flushing the filter until water runs clear. |
