Key Features:
- Backlit grayscale graphical LCD (208 x 104) with support for 6 lines or speed dial keys.
- 2 x Ethernet 10/100 ports for network connectivity.
- HD Voice technology, providing clear audio up to 7KHz on all audio paths.
- SIP Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) phone functionality.
- Powered Over Ethernet (POE) for simplified installation. An optional AC Adapter is not included and must be purchased separately if POE is not available.
3. Setup
3.1 Unpacking
Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Verify that you have the phone base, handset, handset cord, and an Ethernet cable. An AC power adapter is not included as the phone is primarily designed for Power Over Ethernet (POE).
3.2 Connecting the Phone
- Connect the handset cord to the handset and the handset port on the phone base.
- Connect one end of the Ethernet cable to the LAN port on the phone and the other end to a POE-enabled network switch or router. If POE is not available, connect an optional AC power adapter (not included) to the phone's power port and a wall outlet.
- Connect a second Ethernet cable (if needed) from the PC port on the phone to your computer.
3.3 Initial Configuration
Upon connecting, the phone will power on and begin its boot sequence. It will attempt to obtain network settings and configuration from your VoIP service provider. This process is often automated through Polycom Zero Touch Provisioning.
3.4 Factory Reset Procedure
If you encounter issues with pre-configured settings or need to reset the phone to its default state, follow these steps:
- While the device is booting and after the Polycom logo appears, press the soft key for "starting application..." then press "Cancel".
- Before the timer counts down, press and hold keys 1, 3, and 5 simultaneously for more than 2-3 seconds, then release. The prompt "Enter password:" should appear.
- Toggle the 1->Aa soft key to enter letters. Enter the phone's MAC address (found on the label on the back of the phone) without colons and in all capital letters. Note: The entry will be starred out for security. To enter letters, press the appropriate number key multiple times for the corresponding letter (e.g., '2' for A, B, C).
- If successfully entered, the device will reboot with the administrator password reset to '456'. You may then enable the web interface from the phone's menu for easier provisioning.
4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Making and Receiving Calls
- To make a call: Pick up the handset, press a line key, or press the Speaker button. Dial the number and press the Dial soft key or wait for automatic dialing.
- To answer a call: Pick up the handset, press the Speaker button, or press the Answer soft key.
- To end a call: Replace the handset, or press the End Call soft key.
4.2 Using the Display and Navigation
The grayscale LCD displays call information, menu options, and status indicators. Use the navigation cluster (up, down, left, right arrows, and select button) to move through menus and select options. The soft keys located directly below the display change functionality based on the current context.
4.3 Advanced Features
- HD Voice: Experience enhanced audio quality during calls, especially with other HD Voice-enabled devices.
- Multiple Lines: Utilize the 6 line keys to manage multiple calls simultaneously or configure speed dial shortcuts.
- Conference Calls: The phone supports basic conference call capabilities. Refer to your service provider's documentation for specific instructions on initiating and managing conference calls.
5. Maintenance
To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Polycom VVX 310 phone, follow these maintenance guidelines:
- Clean the phone regularly with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth.
- Avoid using liquid cleaners or aerosol sprays directly on the phone.
- Keep the phone away from excessive moisture, heat, and direct sunlight.
- Do not block ventilation openings.
6. Troubleshooting
This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your VVX 310 phone.
- Phone does not power on:
Ensure the Ethernet cable is securely connected to a POE-enabled port. If using an AC adapter (not included), verify it is properly connected to the phone and a working power outlet. - No dial tone:
Check network connectivity. Ensure the phone is registered with your VoIP service. Restart the phone by disconnecting and reconnecting the power source. - Keys feel sticky or display has delayed response:
While some users have reported these issues, they can indicate a hardware problem. Ensure the phone is clean and free of debris. If the problem persists, contact Polycom support or your service provider. - Cannot log in or reset password:
If the default administrator password (often '456') does not work, refer to the 'Factory Reset Procedure' in Section 3.4 to reset the phone to its factory defaults and regain access. - Poor voice quality:
Check your network connection for stability and bandwidth. Ensure other devices on the network are not consuming excessive bandwidth.
