GECKO GK801 Swing Away Heat Press
Instruction Manual
1. Important Safety Instructions
Please read all instructions carefully before operating the GECKO GK801 Swing Away Heat Press. Failure to follow these safety guidelines may result in injury or damage to the equipment.
- Electrical Safety: Ensure the heat press is connected to a grounded power outlet with the correct voltage. Do not operate with a damaged power cord or plug. Disconnect power before cleaning or servicing.
- Hot Surfaces: The heat platen reaches high temperatures. Avoid direct contact with the heated surfaces during operation and cool-down. Use heat-resistant gloves if necessary.
- Ventilation: Operate the heat press in a well-ventilated area to dissipate any fumes from materials being pressed.
- Children and Pets: Keep children and pets away from the heat press during operation and while it is cooling down.
- Stable Surface: Place the heat press on a stable, level, and heat-resistant surface to prevent tipping.
- Flammable Materials: Do not place flammable materials near the heat press.
- Emergency Shut-off: Familiarize yourself with the power switch location for quick shut-off in an emergency.
2. Product Overview
The GECKO GK801 is a 15 by 15-inch swing-away heat press designed for applying heat transfers to various materials. Its swing-away design allows the upper heat platen to rotate 360 degrees, providing a clear workspace and reducing the risk of accidental contact with hot surfaces.

Key Features:
- Durable Construction: Built with a steel frame for high performance and long-term reliability.
- Non-Stick Heat Platen: Features a highly graded non-stick heat platen that ensures even pressure distribution and prevents scorching of materials.
- 360-Degree Swing-Away Design: The upper heat platen can rotate fully, offering a safe and unobstructed workspace.
- Digital Controls: Equipped with an enhanced digital gauge for precise temperature and timer settings.
- Adjustable Pressure: A full-range rear-adjustable pressure knob allows for fine-tuning of pressing force.
3. Setup
Follow these steps to set up your GECKO GK801 Heat Press:
- Unpacking: Carefully remove the heat press from its packaging. Inspect for any shipping damage.
- Placement: Place the unit on a sturdy, level, and heat-resistant workbench or table. Ensure there is adequate space around the unit for the swing-away motion and ventilation.
- Power Connection: Plug the power cord into a grounded electrical outlet. Ensure the outlet meets the power requirements (1800 watts).
- Initial Inspection: Before first use, check all connections and ensure the pressure knob is not overtightened.
4. Operating Instructions
This section details how to operate your heat press for optimal results.
4.1. Setting Temperature and Time
- Power On: Turn on the main power switch. The digital display will illuminate.
- Set Temperature (P1): Press the "SET" button once. The display will show "P1". Use the up/down arrows to adjust the desired temperature. Press "SET" again to confirm.
- Set Time (P2): After setting temperature, press "SET" again. The display will show "P2". Use the up/down arrows to adjust the desired pressing time in seconds. Press "SET" again to confirm and exit the setting mode.
- Pre-heating: Allow the heat press to reach the set temperature. The machine will typically beep continuously once the target temperature is achieved. This may take approximately 10 minutes to reach 375°F (190°C).
4.2. Adjusting Pressure
The pressure is adjusted using the knob located at the rear of the upper platen assembly. Turn clockwise to increase pressure and counter-clockwise to decrease pressure. Test the pressure by closing the press on a blank garment; it should require moderate effort to close and open.
4.3. Heat Transfer Process
- Prepare Garment: Place your garment or material onto the lower platen. Ensure it is flat and smooth.
- Pre-Press (Optional but Recommended): Swing the upper platen over the garment and close it for 5-10 seconds without the transfer. This removes moisture and wrinkles.
- Position Transfer: Swing the upper platen away (360-degree rotation). Carefully position your heat transfer material onto the garment.
- Cover (Optional): Place a Teflon sheet or parchment paper over the transfer to protect the heat platen and garment.
- Press: Swing the upper platen back into position over the transfer. Close the press handle firmly. The timer will automatically begin counting down.
- Open Press: Once the timer alarms, open the press handle and swing the upper platen away from the garment.
- Remove Transfer: Carefully remove the transfer paper according to the transfer material's instructions (hot peel or cold peel).

5. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your heat press.
- Cleaning the Platen: Allow the heat press to cool completely. Use a soft, damp cloth to wipe down the non-stick heat platen. For stubborn residue, use a specialized platen cleaner, following its instructions. Do not use abrasive cleaners or sharp objects.
- Exterior Cleaning: Wipe the exterior surfaces with a damp cloth. Avoid getting water into electrical components.
- Lubrication: Periodically check moving parts for smooth operation. Lightly lubricate pivot points if necessary, using a high-temperature resistant lubricant.
- Storage: When not in use, store the heat press in a clean, dry environment.
6. Troubleshooting
Refer to this section for solutions to common issues you might encounter.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Heat press not heating up. | No power, faulty heating element, or control issue. | Check power connection and outlet. Ensure power switch is on. If problem persists, contact customer support. |
| Inconsistent temperature or temperature spikes. | Faulty temperature sensor or control board. | Ensure the machine has adequate warm-up time. If fluctuations are significant, contact customer support. |
| Pressure is too loose or too tight. | Incorrect pressure adjustment. | Adjust the rear pressure knob. Turn clockwise for more pressure, counter-clockwise for less. Test on a blank garment. |
| Transfers not adhering properly. | Incorrect temperature, time, or pressure settings; improper transfer material. | Verify temperature, time, and pressure settings against transfer material manufacturer's recommendations. Ensure even pressure. |
| Machine beeps continuously. | Indicates target temperature has been reached. | This is normal operation. The beeping will stop once the press is closed or if the temperature drops below the set point. |
