Introduction
This manual provides detailed instructions for the operation, setup, and maintenance of your Staples® SPL-P100 Printing Calculator. Please read this manual thoroughly before using the calculator to ensure proper function and longevity of the device.
The SPL-P100 is a 12-digit printing calculator designed for various business and personal calculations, featuring a clear LCD display and a fast print speed of up to 2.4 lines per second. Key functions include cost/sell/margin calculations, tax functions, and date/time display.

Setup
1. Power Source
The SPL-P100 can be powered by either the included AC adapter or four AA batteries (not included).
- AC Power: Connect the AC adapter to the DC IN jack on the side of the calculator and plug the adapter into a standard electrical outlet.
- Battery Power: Open the battery compartment cover on the bottom of the calculator. Insert four AA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-). Close the cover securely.
2. Installing the Paper Roll
- Lift the paper roll arm at the back of the calculator.
- Place a new paper roll onto the arm, ensuring the paper feeds from the bottom of the roll.
- Feed the leading edge of the paper into the printer slot until it emerges from the top.
- Pull approximately 2-3 inches of paper out and tear off any excess.

3. Initial Settings (Date and Time)
To set the date and time, refer to the "Date and Time Function" section under Operating Instructions.
Operating Instructions
Basic Operations
- Power On/Off: Press the ON C/CE button to turn the calculator on. Press and hold the ON C/CE button to turn it off.
- Clear Entry: Press C/CE once to clear the last entry.
- Clear All: Press C/CE twice to clear all entries and memory.
- Addition/Subtraction/Multiplication/Division: Enter numbers and use the +, -, x, ÷ keys as standard. Press = for the result.

Special Functions
- Cost/Sell/Margin (CSM):
- Enter two values (e.g., Cost and Sell Price), then press the third key (COST, SELL, or MARGIN) to calculate the missing value.
- Tax Keys (TAX+, TAX-, TAX RATE):
- Setting Tax Rate: Enter the tax rate (e.g., 5 for 5%), then press TAX RATE.
- Adding Tax: Enter amount, then press TAX+.
- Subtracting Tax: Enter amount, then press TAX-.
- Date and Time Function (TIME):
- Press TIME to display current date/time.
- To set: Press SET, then TIME. Enter date (MMDDYY) or time (HHMM), then press SET again.
- Decimal Point Selector: Use the slide switch (usually on the side or top) to select the desired number of decimal places (F, 0, 2, 3, 4, 5/4).
- Rounding Selector (5/4): The 5/4 switch controls rounding up or down.
- Print/Non-Print (P/NP): Press P/NP to toggle between printing and non-printing modes.
- Memory Functions (M+, M-, MRC):
- M+: Adds the displayed value to memory.
- M-: Subtracts the displayed value from memory.
- MRC: Press once to recall memory total. Press twice to clear memory.
Maintenance
Cleaning
Wipe the calculator's exterior with a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn dirt, slightly dampen the cloth with water or a mild, non-abrasive cleaner. Do not use harsh chemicals or immerse the calculator in water.
Paper Roll Replacement
When the paper roll runs out or the print becomes faint, replace it following the instructions in the "Installing the Paper Roll" section under Setup.
Battery Replacement
If using battery power and the display becomes dim or the calculator stops functioning, replace all four AA batteries. Ensure the calculator is turned off and the AC adapter is disconnected before replacing batteries. Dispose of old batteries responsibly.
Troubleshooting
