4. Controls and Indicators

- OLED Display: Shows current input, sample rate, volume level, battery status, and menu options.
- Power / Exit Button: Long press to power on/off. Short press to exit menu or return to the main screen.
- Menu Button: Enters the settings menu. Press repeatedly to cycle through menu options.
- Input Button: Selects the audio input source (USB, Line-In, S/PDIF).
- Hold Switch: Locks all buttons to prevent accidental operation.

5. Setup
5.1 Initial Charging
Before first use, fully charge the E17 Alpen. Connect the supplied Mini USB cable to the E17's USB port and the other end to a computer's USB port or a compatible USB wall adapter. The OLED display will indicate charging status. A full charge typically takes about 3.5 hours.
5.2 Connecting to a Computer (USB DAC Mode)
- Ensure the E17 is powered off.
- Connect the Mini USB cable from the E17 to an available USB port on your computer.
- Power on the E17. It should automatically detect the USB connection.
- On your computer, select the FiiO E17 as the audio output device in your sound settings. For optimal performance, install any necessary drivers from the FiiO website if prompted by your operating system.
5.3 Connecting to Audio Players (Line-In)
- Use the supplied 3.5mm audio interconnect cable.
- Connect one end to the headphone output or line-out of your audio player (e.g., MP3 player, smartphone).
- Connect the other end to the E17's 3.5mm Line-In port.
- Power on the E17 and press the 'Input' button until 'Line' is selected on the display.
5.4 Connecting to Digital Sources (S/PDIF)
- Depending on your source device, use either the S/PDIF Coaxial Adapter or the S/PDIF Optical Adapter with a suitable digital cable.
- Connect the adapter to the E17's 3.5mm S/PDIF input port.
- Connect the digital cable from your source device (e.g., CD player, TV, game console) to the adapter.
- Power on the E17 and press the 'Input' button until 'S/PDIF' is selected on the display.
5.5 Connecting Headphones
Plug your headphones into the 3.5mm headphone output jack on the E17. Ensure the connection is secure.
6. Operation
6.1 Power On/Off
Long press the Power / Exit button for approximately 3 seconds to turn the device on or off.
6.2 Volume Adjustment
Use the Volume +/- buttons on the side of the unit to increase or decrease the audio output volume. The volume level will be displayed on the OLED screen.
6.3 Input Selection
Press the Input button repeatedly to cycle through the available input sources: USB, Line-In, and S/PDIF. The currently selected input will be shown on the OLED display.
6.4 Menu Navigation and Settings
Press the Menu button to enter the settings menu. Use the Volume +/- buttons to navigate through the menu options. Press the Menu button again to select an option, and then use Volume +/- to adjust its value. Press the Power / Exit button to exit the menu.
Available menu options typically include:
- Gain: Adjusts the amplification level (e.g., 0dB, 6dB, 12dB) to match your headphones' impedance and sensitivity.
- Bass: Adjusts the bass level (e.g., -10 to +10 in 2dB steps).
- Treble: Adjusts the treble level (e.g., -10 to +10 in 2dB steps).
- Balance: Adjusts the left/right channel balance.
- Sleep Timer: Sets a timer for automatic power-off.
- Display Brightness: Adjusts the brightness of the OLED screen.

6.5 Hold Function

- Ensure the battery is charged. Connect to a USB power source.
- Check if the Hold switch is in the 'OFF' position.
