Thank you for choosing the Westclox 70045 Digital Alarm Clock. This manual provides detailed instructions for setting up, operating, and maintaining your new alarm clock. This device features a large digital display, an on-demand blue backlight, and displays month, date, and temperature.

3. Controls and Display Overview
Familiarize yourself with the buttons and display elements of your alarm clock for optimal use.
3.1 Front Display
- Large Time Display: Shows current time (hours, minutes).
- AM/PM Indicator: Displays for 12-hour format.
- Alarm Indicator: Bell icon appears when alarm is active.
- Snooze Indicator: 'Zz' icon appears when snooze is active.
- Month/Date Display: Shows the current month and day.
- Temperature Display: Shows indoor temperature in Celsius or Fahrenheit.
3.2 Top Button
- SNOOZE / LIGHT Bar: Press to activate snooze during an alarm or to illuminate the display with a bright backlight for a few seconds.
3.3 Rear Controls

- ALARM ON/OFF Switch: Slide to enable or disable the alarm.
- 12/24 / YEAR Button: Press to switch between 12-hour and 24-hour time formats. In setting mode, press to adjust the year.
- °C/°F / MIN / DATE Button: Press to switch between Celsius and Fahrenheit temperature units. In setting mode, press to adjust minutes or the date.
- HOUR / MONTH Button: In setting mode, press to adjust hours or the month.
- SET Switch: Slide to select setting mode for RUN (normal operation), ALM (alarm setting), DATE (date setting), or TIME (time setting).
- Battery Compartment: Holds 3 AAA batteries.
4. Battery Installation
- Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the clock.
- Remove the cover by sliding it downwards or lifting it off.
- Insert 3 new AAA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+ and -) as indicated inside the compartment.
- Replace the battery compartment cover, ensuring it clicks securely into place.
The clock will power on and display default settings. It is recommended to use high-quality alkaline batteries for optimal performance and longevity.
5. Initial Setup
5.1 Setting Time
- Slide the SET switch to the TIME position. The hour digits will flash.
- Press the HOUR / MONTH button repeatedly to adjust the hour. Observe the AM/PM indicator for 12-hour format.
- Press the °C/°F / MIN / DATE button repeatedly to adjust the minutes.
- Once the correct time is set, slide the SET switch back to the RUN position to save and exit.
5.2 Setting Date and Year
- Slide the SET switch to the DATE position. The year digits will flash.
- Press the 12/24 / YEAR button repeatedly to adjust the year.
- Press the HOUR / MONTH button repeatedly to adjust the month.
- Press the °C/°F / MIN / DATE button repeatedly to adjust the date.
- Once the correct date and year are set, slide the SET switch back to the RUN position to save and exit.
5.3 Setting 12/24 Hour Format
- In RUN mode, press the 12/24 / YEAR button to toggle between 12-hour (with AM/PM indicator) and 24-hour formats.
5.4 Setting Temperature Unit
- In RUN mode, press the °C/°F / MIN / DATE button to toggle between Celsius (°C) and Fahrenheit (°F) temperature display.
6. Alarm Functions
6.1 Setting the Alarm Time
- Slide the SET switch to the ALM position. The alarm hour digits will flash.
- Press the HOUR / MONTH button repeatedly to adjust the alarm hour. Observe the AM/PM indicator.
- Press the °C/°F / MIN / DATE button repeatedly to adjust the alarm minutes.
- Once the desired alarm time is set, slide the SET switch back to the RUN position to save and exit.
6.2 Activating/Deactivating the Alarm
- To activate the alarm, slide the ALARM switch on the back of the clock to the ON position. A bell icon will appear on the display.
- To deactivate the alarm, slide the ALARM switch to the OFF position. The bell icon will disappear.
6.3 Snooze Function
- When the alarm sounds, press the large SNOOZE / LIGHT bar on top of the clock. The alarm will pause for approximately 5 minutes, and the 'Zz' icon will flash.
- The alarm will sound again after the snooze period. You can repeat the snooze function multiple times.
- To turn off the alarm completely, slide the ALARM switch to the OFF position.
7. Backlight Operation
- On-Demand Backlight: Press the SNOOZE / LIGHT bar on top of the clock to activate a bright blue backlight for approximately 5 seconds. This is useful for checking the time in dark conditions.
- Automatic Dim Backlight: The clock features a sensor that automatically activates a soft, dim blue backlight in low-light conditions, allowing for continuous visibility without being overly bright. This feature can typically be enabled or disabled via a switch on the back (refer to specific model variations if a dedicated switch is present, otherwise it operates automatically).
8. Maintenance
8.1 Battery Replacement
When the display dims or functions become erratic, it is time to replace the batteries. Follow the steps in Section 4 for battery installation.
- Always replace all three AAA batteries at the same time.
- Do not mix old and new batteries, or different types of batteries.
- Dispose of used batteries responsibly according to local regulations.
8.2 Cleaning
To clean the clock, gently wipe the surface with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or chemical sprays, as these may damage the finish or internal components.
9. Troubleshooting
- No Display or Dim Display:
Ensure batteries are correctly installed with proper polarity. Replace with fresh AAA batteries. - Alarm Not Sounding:
Verify the ALARM switch is in the ON position. Check that the alarm time is set correctly. - Backlight Not Working:
For on-demand backlight, ensure the SNOOZE / LIGHT bar is pressed firmly. For automatic dim backlight, ensure the room is sufficiently dark for the sensor to activate it. If issues persist, replace batteries. - Incorrect Time/Date:
Follow the steps in Section 5 to reset the time and date. - Temperature Reading Appears Incorrect:
Ensure the clock is placed in an area with stable ambient temperature, away from direct sunlight, heat sources, or drafts.
