4.2 Filter Installation
- Select the desired Lee filter from the provided kit.
- Insert the filter into the designated filter holder slot on the front of the RL48-B.
- Ensure the filter is seated properly and securely.
The RL48-B includes a filter-holder for easy attachment of the supplied Lee Filters. These filters allow for adjustment of color temperature (CTO, CTB) and light intensity (Neutral Density), as well as diffusion.
5. Operation
5.1 Powering On/Off
To power on the Rotolight RL48-B, locate the power button on the side of the unit and press it. Press again to power off.
5.2 Adjusting Light Output (Dimming)
The RL48-B's light output can be accurately dimmed using the supplied Neutral Density (ND) filters. These filters reduce the light intensity over a range of 1.5 aperture stops. Experiment with different ND filters to achieve the desired brightness.
5.3 Adjusting Color Temperature
The included Lee Filters allow for precise color temperature adjustments:
- Lee 205, 3200 CTO: Converts daylight (5600K) to Tungsten (3200K) for warmer tones.
- Lee 218 CTB: Converts Tungsten (3200K) to Daylight (5600K) for cooler tones.
- Lee 216 Diffusion: Softens the light output.
- 279 1/8 Minus Green: Corrects for green casts from fluorescent lighting.
Select and insert the appropriate filter based on your desired color temperature and lighting conditions.
5.4 Mounting Options
The RL48-B offers flexible mounting solutions:
- Shotgun Microphone Mount: The unit mounts natively over a shotgun microphone.
- Accessory Shoe: Using the optional Rotolight stand (sold separately), it can be mounted via an accessory shoe on a camera.
- Tripod/Lighting Stand: The optional Rotolight stand also allows mounting onto a standard tripod or lighting stand.
- Rail Support System: Can be integrated into a rail support system with appropriate adapters.

7. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Light does not turn on. | Dead or incorrectly inserted batteries. | Replace batteries with fresh AA batteries, ensuring correct polarity. |
| Light output is too dim. | Neutral Density (ND) filter is installed. | Remove or replace the ND filter with a lighter one. Ensure batteries are fresh. |
| Light color appears incorrect. | Incorrect color temperature (CTO/CTB) filter installed. | Replace the filter with the appropriate CTO or CTB filter for your desired color temperature. |
| Unit feels warm during operation. | Normal operation. | This is normal for LED lights. Ensure adequate ventilation and do not cover the unit. |
