Operating Instructions

  1. Gain Level Adjustment: The iRig Mic features a three-level gain switch located on its body. Adjust this switch based on the sound source's volume:
    • Low: For loud sound sources (e.g., loud singing, instruments).
    • Medium: For general vocals and speaking.
    • High: For soft speaking or distant sound sources.
Ensure the gain is set appropriately to prevent distortion or insufficient volume.
  2. Application Usage: Open your preferred audio or video recording application on your mobile device. The iRig Mic is compatible with a wide range of apps, including IK Multimedia's VocaLive and AmpliTube (free versions available). Select the iRig Mic as your input device within the app settings if necessary.
  3. Real-time Monitoring: If headphones are connected to the iRig Mic's dual mini-jack, you will hear your audio input in real-time, allowing for immediate adjustments to your performance or gain settings.
  4. Microphone Placement: For optimal sound quality, position the microphone appropriately for your sound source. For vocals, hold the microphone close to the mouth. For instruments or ambient sound, adjust distance and angle as needed. The unidirectional pattern helps in reducing background noise.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the microphone. Avoid using liquid cleaners or abrasive materials, as these can damage the finish or internal components.
  • Storage: When not in use, store the iRig Mic in its carrying pouch to protect it from dust, moisture, and physical damage.
  • Handling: Despite its rugged metal body, avoid dropping the microphone or subjecting it to excessive force, which could affect its performance or internal wiring.
  • Cable Care: Do not sharply bend or crimp the tethered cable. Store it loosely coiled to prevent damage.

Troubleshooting

No Sound or Low Volume:
  • Ensure the iRig Mic's TRRS cable is fully inserted into your device's headphone/microphone jack.
  • Check the three-level gain switch on the microphone and adjust it to a higher setting if the sound source is quiet.
  • Verify the input settings within your recording application. Ensure the iRig Mic is selected as the audio input.
  • Increase the input volume within your recording application or device settings.
  • If using headphones for monitoring, ensure they are properly connected to the iRig Mic's output jack and that their volume is up.
Distorted Sound:
  • Lower the three-level gain switch on the microphone if the sound source is very loud.
  • Reduce the input volume within your recording application or device settings.
  • Ensure the microphone is not too close to the sound source, especially for loud vocals or instruments.
Microphone Not Recognized by Device/App:
  • Confirm the TRRS cable is fully seated in the device's jack.
  • Restart your mobile device and the recording application.
  • Ensure your device's operating system is up to date.
  • Test the microphone with a different compatible application to rule out app-specific issues.
