2. Setup and Installation
The STI-1230 Stopper II is designed for straightforward installation over existing fire alarm pull stations. It includes a clear spacer with conduit knockouts for surface mount applications.
Installation Steps:
- Prepare the Mounting Surface: Ensure the wall surface is clean and flat where the cover will be mounted.
- Position the Frame: Place the cover's frame over the fire alarm pull station, aligning it correctly. Mark the mounting holes.
- Drill Pilot Holes: Drill appropriate pilot holes for the mounting screws at the marked locations.
- Secure the Frame: Attach the frame securely to the wall using suitable screws. Ensure it is firmly fixed and does not wobble.

3. Operating Instructions
The STI-1230 Stopper II is a passive protective device. Its operation is simple and intuitive:
- To access the fire alarm pull station, lift the clear polycarbonate cover. The cover is hinged and will swing upwards, remaining attached to the frame by a cable.
- Once the cover is lifted, the fire alarm pull station is fully exposed and can be activated as intended.
- After activating the alarm or if no alarm is necessary, simply close the cover by pushing it back down until it securely latches.
The primary function of this cover is to deter accidental or malicious activation of fire alarms by requiring a deliberate action (lifting the cover) before the alarm can be pulled.
4. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and effectiveness of your STI-1230 Stopper II cover.
- Cleaning: Clean the polycarbonate cover periodically with a soft cloth and mild soap and water. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents, as these can damage the material.
- Inspection: Routinely inspect the cover and its mounting for any signs of damage, cracks, or loose components. Ensure the hinge mechanism operates smoothly and the cable connecting the cover to the frame is intact.
- Functionality Check: Occasionally lift and close the cover to ensure it opens and closes freely and latches securely.
5. Troubleshooting
Most issues with the STI-1230 Stopper II are related to physical damage or improper installation.
- Cover does not close securely: Check for any obstructions around the hinge or latching mechanism. Ensure the frame is mounted flush against the wall and not warped.
- Cover appears loose or wobbly: Verify that all mounting screws are tightened. Inspect the frame for any damage that might compromise its rigidity.
- Cracks or damage to polycarbonate: While the cover is made from tough polycarbonate, extreme impact can cause damage. If significant damage occurs, the unit should be replaced to maintain its protective integrity.
