Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) with Battery Backup and Surge Protection

1. Product Overview

The APC Back-UPS 350VA (model BE350G) is an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) designed to provide battery backup and surge protection for your electronic devices. It ensures continuous power during outages and protects against power surges, safeguarding your computers, external hard drives, wireless routers, and other sensitive electronics.

Key Features

  • 350VA / 200W Battery Backup capacity.
  • 6 Total Outlets: 3 outlets provide Battery Backup and Surge Protection; 3 outlets offer Surge Protection Only.
  • Compact design for easy placement in various environments.
  • Protects connected equipment from power outages, surges, and spikes.

2. Package Contents

Verify that your package contains the following items:

  • APC Back-UPS 350VA (BE350G) Unit
  • User Manual (this document)
  • Surge Protector (as an integrated component)

3. Setup

3.1 Unpacking and Initial Placement

Carefully remove the UPS from its packaging. Place the unit on a stable, flat surface, ensuring adequate ventilation around the unit. Avoid placing it near heat sources or in direct sunlight.

3.2 Battery Connection

The internal battery may be disconnected for shipping. Refer to the diagram below to connect the battery before initial use. This step is crucial for the UPS to provide battery backup functionality.

3.3 Connecting to Power

Plug the UPS power cord directly into a grounded two-pole, three-wire wall outlet. Do not use extension cords, power strips, or other surge protectors with the UPS input, as this can compromise its effectiveness.

3.4 Connecting Equipment

The BE350G features six outlets. It is important to identify the outlets providing battery backup and surge protection, and those offering surge protection only.

  • Connect critical devices (e.g., computer, monitor, wireless router, external hard drives) to the three outlets labeled "Battery Backup + Surge Protection". These devices will remain powered during an outage.
  • Connect non-critical devices (e.g., printer, scanner, desk lamp) to the three outlets labeled "Surge Protection Only". These devices will be protected from surges but will lose power during an outage.

4. Operation

4.1 Powering On/Off

  • To Power On: Press and hold the power button until you hear a short beep and the "Power On" indicator (green LED) illuminates.
  • To Power Off: Press and hold the power button again until the unit shuts down and the "Power On" indicator turns off.

4.2 Indicator Lights

  • Power On (Green LED): This indicator illuminates when the UPS is actively providing power to connected equipment.
  • Replace Battery (Red LED): This indicator illuminates when the internal battery has reached the end of its service life and requires replacement.

4.3 During a Power Outage

When a power outage occurs, the UPS will automatically switch to battery power. It will emit an audible alarm to notify you of the power loss. During this time, it is recommended to save your work and properly shut down your computer to prevent data loss, especially if the outage is prolonged.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Battery Replacement

The internal battery has a limited lifespan and will eventually need replacement. When the "Replace Battery" indicator illuminates, it signifies that the battery is nearing the end of its useful life. Contact APC support or an authorized dealer for a replacement battery. Follow the instructions provided with the replacement battery for safe installation.

5.2 Cleaning

Periodically clean the exterior of the UPS with a dry cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners or solvents, as these can damage the unit. Ensure that all ventilation openings are free from dust and debris to maintain proper airflow and prevent overheating.

6. Troubleshooting

6.1 UPS Does Not Turn On

  • Ensure the UPS power cord is securely plugged into a live, grounded wall outlet.
  • Verify that the internal battery is properly connected. Refer to Section 3.2 for battery connection instructions.
  • Check if the wall outlet is functioning by plugging in another device.

6.2 UPS Beeps Continuously

  • This typically indicates a power outage or a low battery condition. Save your work and shut down connected equipment if the power outage is prolonged.
  • If the "Replace Battery" LED is illuminated, the battery needs replacement.

6.3 No Power from Battery Backup Outlets

  • Confirm that devices are plugged into the "Battery Backup + Surge Protection" outlets, not the "Surge Protection Only" outlets.
  • Check if the UPS is overloaded. Disconnect some non-essential devices and try again. The total wattage of connected devices should not exceed 200W.
