Installation Instructions
This tub spout is designed for a slip-fit connection on a 1/2-inch copper pipe. Ensure the copper pipe extends approximately 2.5 to 3.25 inches from the finished wall for proper installation.
- Prepare the Area: Turn off the main water supply to the bathroom. Clear the area around the existing tub spout.
- Remove Old Spout: If replacing an existing slip-fit spout, loosen the set screw located on the underside of the spout (typically with an Allen wrench) and pull the spout off the copper pipe. For threaded spouts, unscrew counter-clockwise.
- Clean Pipe: Clean the exposed copper pipe thoroughly to remove any debris, old caulk, or corrosion.
- Install New Spout: Slide the Moen Eva 3853BN tub spout onto the 1/2-inch copper pipe. Ensure the spout is flush against the finished wall. The internal rubber gasket will create a seal.
- Secure Spout: Locate the set screw on the underside of the new spout. Use an Allen wrench to tighten the set screw firmly, securing the spout to the copper pipe. Do not overtighten.
- Test for Leaks: Turn the main water supply back on. Turn on the tub faucet and check for any leaks around the base of the spout.
- Apply Caulk (Optional): For a finished look and added moisture barrier, apply a bead of silicone caulk around the base of the spout where it meets the wall.
Operation
To operate the Moen Eva 3853BN Tub Diverter Spout:
- Tub Fill: To fill the bathtub, ensure the lift rod on top of the spout is in the down position. Water will flow directly from the spout into the tub.
- Shower Mode: To divert water to the showerhead, pull the lift rod on top of the spout upwards. This will redirect the water flow from the tub spout to the showerhead. Push the lift rod back down to return water flow to the tub.
Maintenance and Cleaning
To maintain the appearance and functionality of your Moen Eva Tub Diverter Spout:
- Regular Cleaning: Clean the spout regularly with a soft, damp cloth.
- Avoid Harsh Cleaners: Do not use abrasive cleaners, harsh chemicals, or scouring pads, as these can damage the brushed nickel finish. Mild soap and water are recommended.
- Drying: Wipe the spout dry after each use to prevent water spots and mineral buildup.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your tub diverter spout, consider the following:
- Water Leaking from Spout in Shower Mode: A small drip is normal, but significant leakage may indicate a worn diverter washer or internal component. This may require replacing the diverter gate (Moen part #101237) or the entire spout.
- Diverter Not Engaging Fully: Ensure the lift rod is pulled up completely. If it still doesn't engage, the internal mechanism might be obstructed or worn.
- Loose Spout: If the spout wiggles or feels loose, gently tighten the set screw on the underside of the spout with an Allen wrench.
- Low Water Flow: Check the main water supply and ensure there are no blockages in the plumbing.
