1. Product Overview
The La Crosse Technology TX29UDTH-IT is a wireless thermo-hygro sensor designed to measure outdoor temperature and humidity. It is compatible with existing La Crosse Technology 915 MHz weather stations, allowing users to expand their monitoring capabilities to multiple locations. The sensor transmits climate data wirelessly to an indoor receiver, providing essential information for weather planning. It can also be used for indoor temperature monitoring.
This sensor features a small LCD display for on-site temperature readings and transmits data at a 915 MHz frequency up to 330 feet in unobstructed environments. It measures temperatures from -39.8 to 139.8 degrees Fahrenheit and relative humidity from 1 to 99 percent.
2. Setup and Installation
2.1 Battery Installation
The sensor requires two AA alkaline batteries (not included). To install:
- Open the battery compartment cover located on the back of the sensor.
- Insert two fresh AA alkaline batteries, observing the correct polarity (+ and -) as indicated inside the compartment.
- Close the battery compartment cover securely.
Note: Ensure batteries are inserted correctly to prevent damage to the device.
2.2 Pairing with a Weather Station
This sensor is designed to work with compatible La Crosse Technology 915 MHz weather stations (sold separately). Follow the instructions provided with your specific weather station to initiate the pairing process. Generally, this involves:
- Ensure both the sensor and the weather station are powered on and within range.
- Activate the sensor search function on your weather station.
- The sensor will automatically transmit data, and the weather station should detect and display the readings.
If pairing is unsuccessful, try moving the sensor closer to the weather station and repeating the steps. Avoid sources of electromagnetic interference.
2.3 Mounting the Sensor
A mounting bracket is provided for installation. For optimal performance and longevity, install the sensor in a sheltered location that protects it from direct rainfall and prolonged direct sunlight. Ideal locations include under an eave, on a porch, or in a shaded area. Ensure good air circulation around the sensor for accurate readings.
Important: While designed for outdoor use, direct exposure to harsh weather conditions can affect accuracy and lifespan.

3. Operating the Sensor
Once set up and paired, the TX29UDTH-IT sensor operates continuously, measuring and transmitting temperature and humidity data.
- Temperature Range: -39.8°F to 139.8°F (-39.9°C to 59.9°C).
- Humidity Range: 1% to 99% Relative Humidity.
- On-site Display: The small LCD on the sensor shows the current temperature to the tenth of a degree.
- Data Transmission: Data is transmitted wirelessly at 915 MHz frequency every 4 to 16 seconds.
- Wireless Range: Up to 330 feet (100 meters) in an open, unobstructed area. Walls and other obstructions will reduce the effective range.
The data received by your compatible weather station will update according to its own display cycle.
4. Maintenance
4.1 Battery Replacement
When the batteries in the sensor are low, your weather station may indicate a low battery icon for the outdoor sensor. Replace both AA batteries promptly to ensure continuous and accurate data transmission. Always use fresh alkaline batteries.
4.2 Cleaning
Clean the sensor periodically with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents, as these can damage the casing or internal components. Ensure the sensor is dry before re-exposing it to outdoor elements.
4.3 Optimal Placement
Regularly check the sensor's placement to ensure it remains in a sheltered location, protected from direct rain, snow, and intense sunlight. These conditions can lead to inaccurate readings or reduce the sensor's lifespan.
5. Troubleshooting
- No Outdoor Temperature/Humidity Display:
- Ensure the sensor has fresh batteries and they are installed correctly.
- Verify the sensor is within the effective wireless range (up to 330 feet unobstructed) of your weather station.
- Check for sources of interference such as other electronic devices, large metal objects, or thick walls.
- Attempt to re-sync the sensor with your weather station by following the pairing instructions in Section 2.2.
- Inaccurate Readings:
- Ensure the sensor is placed in a location that is sheltered from direct sunlight and rain, which can cause artificially high temperature readings or damage the humidity sensor.
- Verify there is adequate air circulation around the sensor.
- Replace batteries, as low power can sometimes affect accuracy.
- Intermittent Readings:
- This often indicates a weak wireless signal. Try moving the sensor closer to the weather station or adjusting its position to minimize obstructions.
- Check battery levels.
If issues persist after following these steps, please refer to the support information in Section 7.
