BOSS LS-2
BOSS LS-2 Line Selector/Power Supply Guitar Pedal Instruction Manual
Model: LS-2
1. Introduction
The BOSS LS-2 Line Selector is a versatile guitar pedal designed to manage and switch between multiple audio signal paths. It allows musicians to easily switch between different effects devices or amplifiers, or to route input and output signals in various configurations. Featuring two independent line loops and six looping modes, the LS-2 offers extensive control over your signal chain. Additionally, it can supply power to several BOSS compact pedals when used with an AC adaptor, simplifying your pedalboard setup.
2. Important Safety Information
- Power Supply: Use only the specified AC adaptor (BOSS PSA series) or a 9V battery. Using an incorrect power supply can cause malfunction or damage.
- Connections: Ensure all connections are secure before operating the unit. Avoid connecting or disconnecting cables while the unit is powered on to prevent damage to the unit or other equipment.
- Environment: Do not expose the unit to extreme temperatures, humidity, or direct sunlight. Keep away from water and other liquids.
- Cleaning: Clean the unit with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Servicing: Do not attempt to service the unit yourself. Refer all servicing to qualified personnel.

4. Setup and Connections
4.1 Powering the Unit
- Battery Power: Open the battery compartment on the underside of the pedal and insert a 9V battery, ensuring correct polarity.
- AC Adaptor Power: Connect a BOSS PSA series AC adaptor to the DC IN 9V jack. The LS-2 can also supply power to other BOSS compact pedals via the DC OUT jack using an optional daisy chain cable.
4.2 Connecting Audio
- Connect your instrument (e.g., guitar) to the INPUT jack.
- Connect the OUTPUT jack to your amplifier or the next pedal in your signal chain.
- For Loop A, connect the input of your effects chain to the SEND A jack and the output of that effects chain to the RETURN A jack.
- For Loop B, connect the input of your effects chain to the SEND B jack and the output of that effects chain to the RETURN B jack.

5. Operation
The LS-2 offers six distinct modes of operation, selected via the MODE knob. Each mode dictates how the two loops (A and B) and the bypass signal interact.
5.1 Mode Descriptions
- A ↔ BYPASS: Switches between Loop A and a direct bypass signal.
- B ↔ BYPASS: Switches between Loop B and a direct bypass signal.
- A ↔ B: Switches between Loop A and Loop B.
- A+B ↔ BYPASS: Switches between both Loop A and Loop B active simultaneously, and a direct bypass signal.
- A+B MIX ↔ BYPASS: Mixes the signals from Loop A and Loop B, then switches between this mixed signal and a direct bypass. The LEVEL A and LEVEL B knobs control the individual levels of each loop in the mix.
- OUTPUT SELECT: This mode allows you to switch between two different outputs. The signal from the INPUT jack is routed to either the OUTPUT jack or the RETURN A jack (which then acts as a second output). This is useful for switching between two amplifiers.

5.2 Level Adjustment
Use the LEVEL A and LEVEL B knobs to adjust the volume of the signals passing through Loop A and Loop B, respectively. This is particularly useful for balancing levels when switching between different effects or when mixing loops in "A+B MIX" mode.
5.3 Using the Pedal Switch
The large foot pedal switch activates or deactivates the selected loop(s) or switches between the designated paths, depending on the chosen MODE setting. The indicator light will show the current status (e.g., which loop is active).
6. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Wipe the unit with a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn dirt, use a slightly damp cloth and then dry thoroughly. Avoid harsh chemicals.
- Battery Replacement: When the indicator light dims or the unit stops functioning, replace the 9V battery. Always remove the battery if the unit will not be used for an extended period.
- Storage: Store the pedal in a clean, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
7. Troubleshooting
- No Sound:
- Check all cable connections (input, output, send, return).
- Ensure the power supply (battery or AC adaptor) is correctly connected and functioning.
- Verify the MODE knob setting is appropriate for your desired signal path.
- Check the LEVEL knobs; ensure they are not set to minimum.
- Test the connected effects pedals in the loops independently to ensure they are working.
- Weak or Distorted Sound:
- Adjust the LEVEL knobs to achieve proper signal balance.
- Ensure the input signal level is not too high, causing clipping.
- Check the condition of your cables.
- Noise or Hum:
- Ensure all power supplies are properly grounded.
- Try using a different power outlet or AC adaptor.
- Keep audio cables away from power cables.
- Check for faulty cables or connections.
