1. Battery Test

This test assesses the overall health of the battery. Select 'Battery Test' from the main menu. The tester will prompt you to enter the battery's CCA rating. Follow the on-screen instructions. The result will indicate if the battery is 'Good' or needs 'Replace'.

2. V/A Monitor (Leakage Test)

The V/A Monitor function allows for real-time voltage and current monitoring, which is crucial for detecting leakage faults. Connect the leakage monitoring detection cable as instructed. Select 'V/A Monitor' to view live voltage and current waveforms.

3. Cranking Test (Start Test)

This test evaluates the vehicle's starting system. Select 'Start Test' from the main menu. The device will instruct you to turn off the engine, turn on the lights for 2 minutes to discharge, then start the engine. The tester will analyze the cranking voltage and provide a result on the starter's performance.

4. Charging Test

The charging test checks the performance of the vehicle's charging system (alternator). Select 'Charge Test'. The device will instruct you to start the engine and keep it idling, then rev the engine to a specified RPM. It will measure the alternator's output voltage and ripple to determine if the charging system is functioning correctly.

5. Load Test

This test assesses the battery's ability to deliver current under load. Select 'Load Test'. The device will instruct you to turn on all electrical devices in the vehicle (e.g., headlights, radio, AC) for 15 seconds before starting the test. It measures the battery voltage under load to determine its capacity.

6. Data Review and Printing

After performing tests, you can review the measurement results and waveforms. Select 'Review' from the main menu. To print results, navigate to the desired test result and press the print button on the device. The built-in thermal printer will generate a diagnostic receipt.

Maintenance

  • **Cleaning:** Wipe the device with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • **Storage:** Store the tester in its black hand box in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • **Firmware Updates:** Periodically check the AUTOOL official website for firmware updates to ensure optimal performance and compatibility with new battery types. The device supports USB upgrade.
  • **Printer Paper:** Replace the thermal printer paper roll when it runs out. Use only compatible thermal paper.

Troubleshooting

  • **Device Not Powering On:** Ensure the Kelvin clips are securely connected to the battery terminals with correct polarity. Check battery voltage; if too low, the device may not power on.
  • **Inaccurate Readings:** Verify that the battery type and CCA rating entered into the tester match the battery being tested. Ensure connections are clean and tight. External ambient temperature can affect results, but the BT880 is designed to minimize this.
  • **Printer Not Working:** Check if the printer paper is installed correctly and not jammed. Ensure the printer cover is closed properly. If the paper is low, replace it.
  • **Error Messages:** Refer to the on-screen error codes or messages for specific guidance. If an error persists, perform a 'Tool Self Test' from the setup menu.
  • **Polarity Reverse Protection:** The device is equipped with polarity reverse protection. If connected incorrectly, the device and battery will not be damaged, but the test will not proceed. Correct the connection.

User Tips

  • For the most accurate battery test results, ensure the battery terminals are clean and free of corrosion before connecting the tester.
  • When performing the Cranking Test, follow the instructions to discharge the battery slightly before starting the engine to get a more realistic assessment of the starter's performance under typical conditions.
  • Utilize the data printing feature to keep a record of battery health over time, which can help in proactive maintenance and identifying potential issues before they become critical.
  • The V/A Monitor is excellent for diagnosing parasitic draws. If you suspect a component is draining your battery, use this function to observe current fluctuations when the vehicle is off.
