Setup

1. Installation

The Gearelec 7003 is a 2-DIN universal car multimedia player. Professional installation is highly recommended to ensure correct wiring and avoid damage to your vehicle or the unit. Ensure the unit fits your car's dashboard opening before proceeding.

2. Wiring Diagram

Refer to the following diagram for proper connection of the power, audio, video, and other cables. Incorrect wiring can cause damage to the unit or your vehicle's electrical system.

  • Power Cable: Connect the 16-pin power cable to your vehicle's wiring harness. Ensure ACC, B+, and Ground wires are correctly matched.
  • RCA Cable: Use the provided RCA cable for audio output to external amplifiers or subwoofers, and for video input/output.
  • GPS Antenna: Connect the GPS antenna and mount it in a location with a clear view of the sky for optimal signal reception.
  • USB Cable: The rear USB 2.0 port (6-pin) is primarily for dashcam input.
  • Rear Camera Input: Connect your optional rearview camera to the dedicated input cable.

3. Initial Power-On

After installation, turn on your vehicle's ignition. The unit should power on automatically. Follow any on-screen prompts for initial setup, such as language selection and time zone.

Operating Instructions

1. Basic Functions

  • Radio (FM): Access the 'Radio' app to tune into FM stations. The RDS function provides real-time traffic information where available.
  • USB Playback: Insert a USB flash drive into the front USB port to play audio, video, or view images.
  • Rear AUX Function: Connect external audio devices via the rear AUX input.

2. Bluetooth Connectivity

Pair your smartphone via Bluetooth for hands-free calling and music streaming.

  1. Go to the 'Bluetooth' app on the head unit.
  2. Enable Bluetooth on your smartphone and search for 'Car BT'.
  3. Select 'Car BT' on your phone to pair. Confirm the pairing code if prompted.
  4. Once connected, you can make/receive calls, download phone contacts, and play music from your phone.

3. CarPlay & Android Auto

4. GPS Navigation

5. WiFi Connection

6. Steering Wheel Control

Program your car's steering wheel buttons to control the head unit.

  1. Go to 'Settings' and find the 'Steering Wheel Control' or 'Key Learning' option.
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions to map functions (e.g., volume up/down, next track) to your steering wheel buttons.

7. Rear View Camera (Optional)

If a rearview camera is installed, the screen will automatically display the full-screen reversing image when the vehicle is in reverse gear, assisting with parking.

11. Audio Settings (EQ Mode)

Adjust the audio output using the multi-band equalizer to achieve your desired sound profile, with options for strong bass, soft midrange, and clear stereo sound.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the screen and unit. For stubborn smudges, lightly dampen the cloth with water. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
  • Software Updates: Periodically check for software updates to ensure optimal performance and access to new features. Follow the on-screen instructions for any available updates.
  • Reset: If the unit experiences issues, use the reset button (if available) or perform a factory reset through the settings menu. Note that a factory reset will erase all user data and settings. The factory setting password is 1234.

Troubleshooting

  • No Power: Check all power connections. Ensure the ACC and B+ wires are correctly connected and receiving power, and the ground wire is securely attached. Check vehicle fuses.
  • No Sound: Verify speaker connections. Check volume levels and ensure the unit is not muted. If using external amplifiers, ensure they are powered on and correctly wired.
  • GPS Signal Issues: Ensure the GPS antenna is properly connected and mounted in a location with a clear view of the sky, away from obstructions.
  • Bluetooth Connection Problems: Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on both the head unit and your smartphone. Try unpairing and re-pairing the devices.
  • Touchscreen Unresponsive: Try restarting the unit. If the issue persists, a factory reset might be necessary.
  • Unit Freezes/Crashes: Restart the unit. If frequent, ensure all apps are updated and consider a factory reset.
