Setup
Battery Installation
The ANENG DM850 Multimeter requires a 9V battery (model 6F22) for operation. Follow these steps to install the battery:
- Locate the battery compartment on the back of the multimeter.
- Use a screwdriver to unscrew the battery compartment cover.
- Carefully remove the cover.
- Connect the 9V battery, ensuring the positive and negative poles are correctly aligned with the battery clips.
- Place the battery into the compartment.
- Replace the battery compartment cover and secure it with the screw.

Operation
Before taking any measurements, ensure the multimeter is properly set up and the test leads are securely connected. Always select the appropriate function and range for your measurement to prevent damage to the device or injury.
General Measurement Steps:
- Insert the black test lead into the 'COM' jack.
- Insert the red test lead into the 'VΩmA' jack for voltage, resistance, and low current measurements, or into the '10A' jack for high current measurements.
- Turn the function dial to the desired measurement function and range.
- Connect the test probes to the circuit or component you wish to measure.
- Read the value displayed on the LCD screen.
- Use the 'HOLD' button to freeze the reading on the screen if needed.
Specific Measurement Functions:
1. AC Voltage Measurement
Turn the function dial to the AC voltage range (V~). Insert the probes into the socket to measure the AC voltage value. The common household current can be measured. For example, a reading of 238V for a common household socket.

2. DC Voltage Measurement
Turn the function dial to the DC voltage range (V-). Connect the probes across the component or power source. For example, measuring a 9V battery might show 1.06V if discharged or 8.99V if charged, proving the multimeter's high accuracy.

3. DC Current Measurement
To measure DC current, the multimeter must be connected in series with the circuit. Connect the probe in series at both ends of the dot line to measure DC current. For example, measuring the current of a fan connected to a battery.

IMPORTANT WARNING for AC Current Measurement: Do NOT directly contact the multimeter probes with AC current sources like measuring voltage. Direct contact will burn out the instrument! Always connect the multimeter IN SERIES with the circuit when measuring current.

4. Resistance Measurement
Adjust the multimeter to the resistance range (Ω). Connect the test leads across the component to measure its resistance value.

5. Diode Measurement
Switch the function dial to the diode gear. Accurately distinguish between positive and negative poles to measure the value. The multimeter will display the forward voltage drop of the diode.

6. Triode (hFE) Measurement
Set the function range switch to the hFE position. Insert the transistor leads into the appropriate slots in the triode socket, ensuring it is of PNP or NPN type. The multimeter will display the transistor's current gain (hFE).

7. Audible Continuity Test
Turn the function dial to the continuity test position (indicated by a speaker icon). Connect the test leads across the circuit or component. If the circuit is connected (low resistance), the multimeter will emit a beep sound, and the detection indicator light will illuminate. No sound indicates an open circuit or high resistance.

Maintenance
- Cleaning: Wipe the multimeter with a dry, soft cloth. Do not use abrasives or solvents.
- Battery Replacement: Replace the 9V battery when the low battery symbol appears on the LCD screen to ensure accurate readings.
- Storage: When not in use for extended periods, remove the battery to prevent leakage and store the multimeter in a cool, dry place.
- Test Leads: Inspect test leads for any damage (cracks, frayed insulation) before each use. Replace damaged leads immediately.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No display or dim display | Low or dead battery | Replace the 9V battery. |
| Incorrect readings | Incorrect function/range selected; Damaged test leads; Poor contact. | Ensure correct function/range. Check and replace test leads if damaged. Ensure good contact with the circuit. |
| Multimeter does not turn on | Battery not installed correctly; Dead battery. | Check battery installation and polarity. Replace battery. |
| No continuity beep | Open circuit; Multimeter not in continuity mode. | Verify the circuit is closed. Ensure the function dial is set to continuity mode. |
User Tips
- Always start with the highest range when measuring an unknown voltage or current to avoid overloading the multimeter.
- For precise resistance measurements, ensure the component is isolated from the circuit.
- Remember that current measurements require the multimeter to be connected in series, while voltage measurements require parallel connection.
