6. Operating Modes
The KuWFi 4G CPE Outdoor Router supports multiple operating modes to suit different networking needs:
- AP Mode (Access Point Mode): In this mode, the router acts as a wireless access point, extending an existing wired network wirelessly. A 4G SIM card is not required for this mode.
- WiFi Mode (Wireless Router Mode): The router uses a 4G SIM card to access the internet and then broadcasts a Wi-Fi signal for wireless devices.
- Wired Mode: The router uses a 4G SIM card for internet access and provides a wired connection through its LAN port.

9. Troubleshooting
9.1 SIM Card Not Recognized / No Internet Access
- Check SIM Card: Ensure the SIM card is correctly inserted and activated.
- Disable PIN Code: Make sure the PIN code on your SIM card is disabled. This can usually be done using a mobile phone.
- Configure APN: Follow the APN settings instructions in Section 7.2.
- Check SIM Card Type: Verify that the SIM card is not an IoT card, virtual SIM card, or one with limited service that restricts use in routers/hotspots.
- Physical Connection: If connecting via cable, ensure the Ethernet cable is firmly plugged into the LAN port and its indicator light is on. If not, try a different cable.
- SIM Card Fit: If the router displays "NO Sim card" or "SIM card invalid!", try adding a small piece of paper behind the SIM card to ensure a snug fit, as shown in Figure 13.

Figure 13: Troubleshooting "No SIM card" error by adjusting SIM card fit.
9.2 Unstable Network Signal
- Router Placement: If using indoors, consider placing the router outdoors for better signal reception, then use a Wi-Fi amplifier indoors if needed.
- Lock Network Type: Access the settings page and try locking the network to 4G or 3G to improve stability.
- Antenna Orientation: Adjust the external antennas for optimal signal reception.
- Frequency Band: Ensure your SIM card's frequency band is well-covered in your location.
9.3 General Connectivity Issues
- Reboot: Power cycle the router by unplugging and replugging the power adapter.
- Check Cables: Ensure all Ethernet cables are securely connected.
- Device Compatibility: Confirm your connected devices (PC, Mac, iPhone, iPad, Android) meet the minimum operating system requirements (Windows XP SP3+, OS X v10.5.7+, iOS 5+, Android 2.3+).
10. User Tips
- SIM Card PIN: Always disable the PIN code on your SIM card before inserting it into the router to avoid connectivity issues.
- APN Configuration: If automatic internet connection fails, manually configure the APN settings using information from your mobile carrier.
- Signal Strength: For best performance, especially in areas with weak indoor signals, consider installing the router outdoors and using a Wi-Fi amplifier indoors to extend coverage.
- Cable Connection Check: If you suspect a router issue, connect it directly to a computer via an Ethernet cable to verify basic functionality before troubleshooting wireless connections.
