3. Setup

3.1 Component Identification

3.2 Installing the Antenna

  1. Align the antenna with the antenna connector on the top of the radio.
  2. Gently screw the antenna clockwise until it is firmly seated. Do not overtighten.

3.3 Installing the Battery

  1. Ensure the radio is powered off.
  2. Align the battery pack with the battery compartment on the back of the radio.
  3. Slide the battery into place until it clicks securely.

3.4 Charging the Battery

The RT-470X features a convenient USB-C charging method. You can charge the radio using a PC, car charger, power bank, or wall charger with the provided USB-C cable.

3.5 Initial Power On

After installing the antenna and battery, turn the volume/power knob clockwise to power on the radio. The display will show the 'radtel' logo or voltage, followed by the operating interface.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Basic Operation

  • Power On/Off: Rotate the top knob clockwise to turn on, counter-clockwise to turn off.
  • Volume Control: Adjust the same top knob to control the volume.
  • Channel/Frequency Selection: Use the up/down arrow keys on the keypad to change channels or frequencies.
  • PTT (Push-to-Talk) Button: Press and hold the large side button to transmit. Release to receive. The RT-470X features dual PTT buttons, which can be programmed for different functions or frequencies.
  • Flashlight: The radio includes a strong LED flashlight. Refer to the programmable keys section for activation.
  • Monitor Function: Press the assigned monitor key to listen to weak signals.

4.2 Advanced Features

  • Multi-band Transmitting & Receiving: The RT-470X supports a wide range of frequencies for both transmission and reception, including 136-629MHz TX/RX, 630-660MHz RX, and 840-999MHz RX.
  • Air Band Reception: Receive aviation signals on 108-136MHz (expandable to 108-137MHz). Note that air band is for reception only, not transmission.
  • NOAA Weather Alerts: Stay informed with NOAA weather channel reception, crucial for outdoor activities.
  • FM Broadcast Receive: Enjoy FM radio broadcasts on 66-108MHz.
  • Voice Scrambler: Activate the voice scrambler function to enhance privacy during communications. Two scrambler modes are available.
  • VOX (Voice-Operated Transmit): Enable VOX for hands-free transmission. The radio will transmit automatically when it detects your voice. Sensitivity levels can be adjusted.
  • Frequency Measurement/Wireless Copy: Quickly seek and copy frequencies and CTCSS/DCS tones from other radios.
  • SOS Emergency Alarm: In case of emergency, activate the SOS function to send out an alarm.
  • Multi Scan Modes: The radio supports Time Operation (TO), Carrier Operation (CO), and Search Operation (SE) scan modes.
  • Roger Tone: The radio can emit a 'Frog Sound' signal to indicate the end of a transmission.
  • CTCSS/DCS: Utilize CTCSS/DCS tones for selective signaling and to filter out unwanted communications.
  • DTMF Signal/Keypad Tone: Supports DTMF signals (BOT/EOT/BOTH) and keypad tones.
  • Keypad Lock: Automatically or manually lock the keypad to prevent accidental input.
  • Programmable Keys (PF1/PF2/PF3/TOP KEY): These buttons can be customized for quick access to functions like Radio, NOAA, Light, Search, Scan, TX Power, Monitor, or PTT2.

  • DELCH (Delete Channel): Deletes a stored channel.
  • TXP (Transmit Power): Selects transmit power (High/Middle/Low).
  • SAVE (Battery Save): Configures battery save mode (1-5) for power efficiency.
  • ROGER (Roger Beep): Enables or disables the Roger beep (OFF/BEEP).
  • TOT (Time Out Timer): Limits transmission time to prevent battery drain and channel hogging.
  • VOX (Voice Transmit): Activates and sets VOX sensitivity (1-9).
  • W/N (Wide/Narrow Bandwidth): Selects wide or narrow bandwidth.
  • LANGUAGE: Sets voice guide language (English/Chinese).
  • SCRAMBLE: Activates voice scrambler (Scram1/Scram2).
  • OFFSET (Repeater Offset): Sets frequency difference for repeater use.
  • POWER (Power On Display): Choose to display LOGO or VOLTAGE on power-on.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Battery Care

  • Use only the specified battery pack and charger.
