4. Assembly and Setup

The GEP-CT30 frame features a modular and quick-disassembly design for ease of assembly and maintenance. Follow these general steps for building your FPV drone:

4.1 Frame Assembly

  1. Begin by attaching the main plate and bottom plate using the provided screws and standoffs.
  2. Install the isolation plate as indicated in the diagrams.
  3. Mount the 3-inch one-piece injection-molded propeller guard to the frame.
  4. If using the optional COB light strip, carefully embed it into the propeller guard. Ensure proper wiring to your BEC module or flight controller for power.

4.2 Component Installation

  1. Flight Controller (FC) & VTX: Mount your AIO flight controller to the 25.5mm x 25.5mm mounting holes. Secure your Video Transmitter (VTX) to the compatible 20mm x 20mm or 25.5mm x 25.5mm mounting holes.
  2. Motors: Attach your 15-18-20 series motors to the 12mm x 12mm motor mounting holes on the arms.
  3. FPV Camera: Install your FPV camera using the 19mm camera spacing. The aviation 7075-T aluminum alloy camera mounting bracket provides secure placement.
  4. Action Camera: Utilize the Naked GoPro Base Mount and the newly developed gimbal shock absorption structure to mount your action camera. This system is designed to minimize high-frequency vibration and jello effect, ensuring stable and clear footage.
  5. Antennas: Install receiver antennas using the provided 100mm antenna tubes.
  6. Battery: Secure your battery using the M15*200 or M15*220 battery straps and the non-slip mats.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Pre-Flight Checks

  • Ensure all screws are tightened and components are securely mounted.
  • Verify that propellers are correctly installed and free from damage.
  • Check battery charge level and secure it firmly with straps.
  • Confirm FPV camera and action camera (if installed) are properly connected and functioning.
  • If using the COB light strip, ensure it is powered and visible.

5.2 Flight Considerations

  • The GEP-CT30 is designed for cinematic flying, offering stable flight characteristics. Practice in open areas before attempting complex maneuvers or flying in confined spaces.
  • Always maintain line of sight with your drone.
  • Be aware of your surroundings and any potential obstacles.
  • The propeller guards provide protection but are not indestructible. Avoid collisions.
  • The optional COB light strip enhances visibility, especially in low-light conditions, aiding in orientation and safety.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance will extend the life and performance of your GEP-CT30 frame.

  • Post-Flight Inspection: After each flight, inspect the frame for any cracks, loose screws, or damage to the carbon fiber plates, aluminum parts, or propeller guards.
  • Cleaning: Keep the frame clean from dirt, dust, and debris. Use a soft brush or compressed air. Avoid using harsh chemicals.
  • Screw Tightness: Periodically check and tighten all screws, especially those securing the main plates, motor mounts, and camera mounts.
  • Gimbal Damping Module: Inspect the gimbal damping module for wear or damage. Replace components if they show signs of degradation to maintain optimal vibration absorption.
  • Propeller Guards: Check the propeller guards for any deformities or cracks. While made from high-toughness PC+PET material, severe impacts can cause damage.
  • COB Light Strip: If installed, check the COB light strip for any damage or flickering. Ensure its connections are secure.
  • Quick-Disassembly: The quick-disassembly design allows for easy access to internal components. Utilize this feature for thorough inspections and part replacements. Remember to remove only the 6 designated screws for top plate separation.

7. Troubleshooting

7.1 Common Issues and Solutions

  • Excessive Vibration/Jello Effect in Footage:
    • Check the gimbal damping module for proper installation and integrity. Ensure all rubber dampeners are in place and not worn.
    • Verify that all motors are securely mounted and propellers are balanced and undamaged.
    • Inspect the action camera mount for any looseness.
  • COB Light Strip Not Functioning:
    • Check the wiring connections from the COB light strip to the BEC module or flight controller.
    • Ensure the BEC module (if used) is receiving power and outputting the correct voltage.
    • Inspect the light strip itself for physical damage.
  • Loose Components After Impact:
    • Utilize the quick-disassembly feature to access and inspect all internal components.
    • Tighten any loose screws and replace any damaged parts (e.g., standoffs, carbon fiber plates).

8. User Tips

  • COB Light Strip Visibility: The embedded COB light strip provides excellent visibility both day and night. Consider using it for enhanced orientation during flight, especially in challenging lighting conditions.
  • Modular Design for Customization: The quick-disassembly and modular design not only aids in maintenance but also allows for easier customization and upgrades of your FPV system components.
  • Action Camera Compatibility: The frame is designed to accommodate various action cameras, ensuring stable footage. Experiment with different camera settings and mounting angles to achieve your desired cinematic shots.
