5. Maintenance and Care

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your hearing aid.

  • Protection from Moisture: Do not wear the hearing aid when showering or swimming. Avoid exposing the device to rain or excessive moisture.
  • Cleaning: Regularly clean your ear canal to prevent wax buildup. Keep the earplugs clean by wiping them with a soft, dry cloth.
  • Battery Care: The LW16-BTE-M uses A312 batteries. Ensure batteries are replaced when low and disposed of properly. Store spare batteries in a cool, dry place.

6. Troubleshooting

6.1 Whistling or Noise

Whistling or feedback noise can occur due to the close proximity of the internal amplifier and microphone, especially when sound is continuously received and expanded. To minimize this:

  • Volume Adjustment: Gradually increase the volume after turning on the device. Starting with a high volume can induce howling.
  • Proper Earplug Fit: Ensure the earplug completely seals your ear canal without air leakage. Experiment with different earplug sizes to find the best fit.
  • Secure Placement: After inserting the hearing aid into the ear canal, gently push it with your fingers and hold for 1-2 seconds. This helps the earphone to fully extend and create a secure seal.
  • Initial Volume Setting: Always turn the hearing aid volume to the lowest level before inserting it into your ear. Once inserted and sealed, slowly increase the volume to a comfortable level.

6.2 No Sound or Reduced Sound

  • Battery Check: Ensure the battery is correctly inserted and has sufficient charge. Replace if necessary.
  • Earwax Buildup: Check for earwax buildup in the ear canal or on the earplug/sound tube, which can block sound. Clean as necessary.
  • Hearing Adaptation: If you have experienced hearing loss for a long time, your hearing nerve may need time to adapt. Continue using the hearing aid consistently to stimulate the nerve. If unsure if the device is working, test it on a person with normal hearing.

6.3 Hearing Loss Severity Self-Test Table

Refer to the table below to understand different levels of hearing loss and determine if a hearing aid is suitable for your condition. This table is for reference only; consult a professional audiologist for detailed information.
