Connect the wiring harness according to the following:
- Gray line: Counter (+)
- Red line: DC+12V
- White line: Coin signal
- Black line: Ground line
- Gray line: Counter (-)
5.2 Initial Configuration
- Set Sample Coin: Remove the plastic coin from the coin groove on the acceptor. Insert the coin you wish the acceptor to recognize into this groove.
- Adjust Coin Output Polarity Switch (SW1): This switch determines the output signal polarity. For most standard PC boards, use the 'NC' (Normally Closed) setting. For other specific PC boards, use 'NO' (Normally Open).
- Adjust Coin Time Switch (SW2): This switch controls the pulse width of the coin signal.
- 20ms (Fast): Suitable for common game machines.
- 40ms (Medium): Suitable for common game machines.
- 100ms (Slow): Suitable for amusement machines.
- Adjust Sensitivity (VR Knob): The VR knob is used to adjust the sensitivity of coin recognition. Turning it clockwise results in a looser selection (more tolerant), while turning it counter-clockwise results in a stricter selection (less tolerant). This should ideally be adjusted and tested before final installation.
6. Operation
6.1 Power On
When the coin acceptor is powered on, the panel LED light will illuminate. A digital tube display showing '0' indicates that the device is in normal working state.
6.2 Coin Insertion
Insert the configured coin into the coin slot. The acceptor will process the coin and send a signal to the connected system if the coin is recognized as valid.
6.3 LED Color Pattern
Press the 'Select' button on the coin acceptor to cycle through and change the LED color patterns.

7. Maintenance
7.1 Cleaning
Periodically inspect the coin groove and internal mechanisms for any debris, dust, or foreign objects that may hinder proper operation. Clean as necessary to prevent jamming or misidentification.
7.2 Addressing Jammed Coins
If coins frequently jam:
- Slide down the mechanism where coins are jamming.
- Open the slide cover.
- Lift the induction line to clear any obstructions.
- Clean any debris from the groove.
- Adjust the location of the limiting size metal plate at the back of the coin insertion panel to prevent larger coins from being inserted incorrectly.
8. Troubleshooting

Figure 6: Common fault handling guide.
| NO. | Normal Fault | Method |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Insert coin but no scores | 1. Check the direction of COIN output polarity switch. 2. Adjust the COIN time switch. |
| 2 | Retain coins (less score) | 1. Adjust the COIN time switch. 2. Coins can not pass smoothly. |
| 3 | Retain coins (more score) | 1. COIN time switch is not good. |
| 4 | Coins can not be inserted smoothly | 1. Turn the VR knob clockwise. 2. Adjust the precision switch to normal side. 3. Make sure that sample coin is in a right position, or change another sample coin to try it again. |
| 5 | Pass counterfeit coins | 1. Adjust VR knob counterclockwise. 2. Adjust the precision switch to precise side. |
| 6 | Panel LED light and digital tube 'off' | 1. Make sure that the socket is not in poor connection. 2. Check whether the line is connected in right way. |
| 7 | Can not pass coins when digital tube display 0 | 1. Make sure that sensitivity knob is not strict. 2. Make sure that sample coin is in a right position, or change another sample coin to try it again. |
| 8 | Can not pass coins when digital tube display E | 1. Check whether there are debris or jamming coins. 2. Check whether light eye is not good. |
| 9 | Can not pass coins when digital tube display F | 1. Fishing alarm reminding. 2. There is no sample coin before using. |
| 10 | Jamming coins | 1. Slide down when jamming coins, open the slide cover, and lift the induction line to exit jammed coins. 2. Clean the debris in the groove. 3. Make sure the clamshell fold. 4. Adjust the location of limiting size of metal plate at the back of inserting coins panel, to avoid big coins inserting. |
| 11 | No light | 1. Check the LED bar plug is whether connect well. 2. Press select button to exit all dark status. |
9. User Tips
- The TW-389 Coin Acceptor is designed to be programmed for a specific coin type. While it can be reprogrammed for different coins, it typically recognizes one type at a time based on the sample coin set.
- For optimal performance, ensure the sample coin is clean and free of damage.
- Regularly check the coin path for any foreign objects or debris that could cause jams or misreads.
