1. Important Information

This electronic user's guide is intended for anyone who uses the Philips monitor. Please read this user manual carefully before operating your monitor. It contains important information and notes regarding its operation.

The Philips guarantee is valid provided the product is handled properly for its intended use, in accordance with its operating instructions, and upon presentation of the original invoice or cash receipt detailing the date of purchase, dealer's name, and model and production number.

1.1 Safety Precautions and Maintenance

[Warning] Use of controls, adjustments, or procedures other than those specified in this documentation may result in exposure to shock, electrical hazards, and/or mechanical hazards. Read and follow these instructions when connecting and using your computer monitor.

Excessive sound pressure from earphones and headphones can cause hearing loss. Adjusting the equalizer to maximum increases the output voltage and sound pressure level.

Operation

  • Keep the monitor out of direct sunlight, very strong bright lights, and away from any other heat source. Prolonged exposure may result in discoloration and damage.
  • Keep the display away from oil, which can damage the plastic cover and void the warranty.
  • Remove any objects that could fall into ventilation holes or obstruct proper cooling of the monitor's electronics.
  • Do not block the ventilation holes on the cabinet.
  • When positioning the monitor, ensure the power plug and outlet are easily accessible.
  • If turning off the monitor by detaching the power cable, wait for 6 seconds before reattaching it for normal operation.
  • Always use the approved power cord provided by Philips. If missing, contact your local service center.
  • Operate the monitor only with the specified power supply. Incorrect voltage can cause malfunction, fire, or electric shock.
  • Do not disassemble the AC adapter, as this may expose you to fire or electric shock.
  • Protect the cables. Do not pull or bend power or signal cables. Do not place heavy objects on cables, as damaged cables can cause fire or electric shock.
  • Do not subject the monitor to severe vibration or high impact conditions during operation.
  • Do not knock or drop the monitor during operation or transportation.
  • To prevent eye discomfort from prolonged use, take shorter, more frequent breaks (e.g., 5-10 minutes every hour) rather than fewer, longer breaks. To reduce eye strain:
    • Look at objects at varying distances periodically.
    • Blink consciously while working.
    • Gently close and roll your eyes to relax.
    • Reposition your screen to an appropriate height and angle.
    • Adjust brightness and contrast to a suitable level.
    • Adjust ambient lighting to match screen brightness; avoid fluorescent lighting and surfaces that reflect too much light.
    • Consult a doctor if symptoms persist.

Maintenance

  • To prevent damage, do not apply excessive pressure on the LCD panel. Lift the monitor by its frame, not the panel itself.
  • Oil-based cleaning solutions may damage plastic parts and void the warranty.
  • Unplug the monitor if it will not be used for an extended period.
  • Unplug the monitor before cleaning. Wipe the screen with a slightly damp cloth. When the power is off, the screen can be wiped with a dry cloth. Never use organic solvents like alcohol or ammonia-based liquids.
  • To avoid shock or permanent damage, do not expose the monitor to dust, rain, water, or excessive moisture.
  • If the monitor gets wet, wipe it dry immediately. If foreign substances or water enter the monitor, turn off the power, disconnect the power cord, remove the substance/water, and send it to a maintenance center.
  • Do not store or use the monitor in locations exposed to heat, direct sunlight, or extreme cold.
  • For optimal performance and longevity, operate the monitor within the following ranges: Temperature: 0-40°C (32-104°F), Humidity: 20-80% RH.

Important Information for Burn-in/Ghost Image

  • Always activate a moving screen saver when leaving the monitor unattended.
  • Always activate a periodic screen refresh application if the monitor displays unchanging static content.
  • Uninterrupted display of static images over extended periods can cause "burn-in", "after-imaging", or "ghost imaging". This phenomenon usually disappears gradually after the power is switched off.

[Warning] Failure to activate a screen saver or periodic screen refresh may result in severe "burn-in" or "after-image"/"ghost image" symptoms that cannot be repaired. Such damage is not covered under your warranty.

Service

  • The casing cover should only be opened by qualified service personnel.
  • For repair or integration documents, contact your local service center.
  • Refer to "Technical Specifications" for transportation information.
  • Do not leave your monitor in a car trunk under direct sunlight.

[Note] Consult a service technician if the monitor does not operate normally or if you are unsure about operating instructions.

7. Customer Care and Warranty

7.1 Philips' Flat Panel Monitors Pixel Defect Policy

Philips is committed to delivering high-quality products using advanced manufacturing processes and stringent quality control. However, pixel or sub-pixel defects on TFT Monitor panels are sometimes unavoidable. Philips guarantees that any monitor with an unacceptable number of defects will be repaired or replaced under warranty. This policy defines types of pixel defects and acceptable defect levels. To qualify for warranty service, the number of pixel defects must exceed these levels. For example, no more than 0.0004% of sub-pixels may be defective. Philips also sets higher standards for noticeable defect types or combinations.

Pixels and Sub-pixels

A pixel is composed of three sub-pixels (red, green, blue). When all sub-pixels are lit, they appear as a white pixel. When all are dark, they appear as a black pixel. Other combinations create different colors.

Diagram showing a pixel composed of R, G, B sub-pixels.

Types of Pixel Defects

Pixel and sub-pixel defects appear in different ways:

Bright Dot Defects

Bright dot defects are pixels or sub-pixels that are always lit ('on'). They stand out on dark patterns.

Illustration showing one lit red, green, or blue sub-pixel.
Illustration showing two adjacent lit sub-pixels: Red + Blue = Purple, Red + Green = Yellow, Green + Blue = Cyan (Light Blue).
Illustration showing three adjacent lit sub-pixels (one white pixel).

[Note] A red or blue bright dot must be >50% brighter than neighboring dots; a green bright dot must be 30% brighter.

Black Dot Defects

Black dot defects are pixels or sub-pixels that are always dark ('off'). They stand out on light patterns.

Illustration showing a black dot defect.

Proximity of Pixel Defects

Philips specifies tolerances for the proximity of pixel defects, as defects of the same type near each other can be more noticeable.

Pixel Defect Tolerances

To qualify for repair or replacement due to pixel defects during the warranty period, a TFT Monitor panel must have defects exceeding the following tolerances:

BRIGHT DOT DEFECTS
1 lit subpixel1 or fewer
2 adjacent lit subpixels0
3 adjacent lit subpixels (one white pixel)0
Distance between two bright dot defects*>5mm
Total bright dot defects of all types1 or fewer
BLACK DOT DEFECTS
1 dark subpixel3 or fewer
2 adjacent dark subpixels1 or fewer
3 adjacent dark subpixels0
Distance between two black dot defects*>5mm
Total black dot defects of all types3 or fewer
TOTAL DOT DEFECTS
Total bright or black dot defects of all types3 or fewer

[Note] 1 or 2 adjacent sub pixel defects = 1 dot defect.
