We recently upgraded our reliable large split systems by integrating advanced technology and adding numerous new features and options. With these enhancements, our systems now have a new name: IntelliCore. These redesigned units offer top-tier efficiency to help you reduce your operational costs and meet your sustainability goals.
What hasn’t changed? The straightforward installation you’ve always relied on, and the reliability and durability you expect from Trane.
Think of them as “utility players”
Ranging from 20 to 120 tons, IntelliCore Large Split Systems come in multiple configurations and can be paired with various air handlers, remote chiller evaporators and other types of HVAC equipment. These highly efficient models are available with or without compressors and can be installed either on the ground or on the roof.
As a result of their versatility, IntelliCore Large Split Systems are well suited for a host of different applications — from large office buildings to school facilities to industrial plants to warehouses.

Symbio® 800 for connectivity and optimization
Units with compressors are shipped with a factory-mounted Symbio 800 Controller, the launch point for digitally connected smart buildings. Symbio improves your system’s performance, protects equipment through Adaptive Control and gives building owners and operators the ability to easily monitor and service the core of their system. You’ll be able to remotely schedule and control equipment — at any time, from anywhere — to reduce energy waste and optimize performance.
And because Symbio includes built-in communication, it’s compatible with many different building automation systems (BAS) communication protocols — including Modbus® RTU, Modbus TCP, BACnet/IP and BACnet MS/TP — leading to easy integration with virtually any BAS without gateways or special hardware.

More efficient than ever
Our 20- and 25-ton units are now equipped with two-stage compressors, replacing the previous fixed-speed models.
This upgrade helps to enhance efficiency and reduce operating costs. Additionally, the compressor staging in our 20- to 30-ton units enables compliance with Title 24 and meets ASHRAE® 90.1 minimum capacity requirements.

IntelliCore™ Large Split Systems use R-454B, a low-GWP refrigerant that complies with the latest EPA regulations.
Mitigation will be driven by the air handler unit, but IntelliCore units will respond to the leak detection system signal and disable compressors during mitigation.

IntelliCore boasts a multitude of other updates and improvements over our previous large split systems. Here are just a few standard and optional features:
- Adaptive Controls™ — During everyday operations, your HVAC system may encounter changes and adverse factors that challenge its ability to remain on.
- Building Automation System (BAS) communication protocols — including Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, BACnet/IP and BACnet MS/TP.
- Rapid Restart™ — For sensitive indoor environments such as a hospitals or data centers, cooling is mission critical. IntelliCore Large Split Systems help ensure temperature continuity with their rapid restart feature, which enables the Supply Air VAV control system or EVP control system to rapidly restart after a power failure.
- Loss of Charge Detection — Protects your system’s compressor by shutting down the circuit when a loss of refrigerant charge is detected.
- Real-Time Pressure Monitoring — No need for field installed pressure gauges. The unit will have factory installed pressure transducers that will provide pressure readings through Symbio 800 and display on userinterfaces.
- Remote Chiller Evaporator — Allows chilled water to be generated away from the condensing section.
- Economizer Control Option — With the Supply Air VAV system control option, the Symbio 800 will control the outdoor air damper installed in the air handler to fully utilize economizing functionality prior to starting mechanical cooling.
- “No Control” System Control — Allows the air handler or other third-party controller to stage compressors, while continuing to provide Adaptive Control oversight.
- User Security with Audit Trail — Enables you to see changes made to the system and identify the user who made them.
- OEM Factory Startup — Gets your system off to an optimal start.
- Expansion Modules — Provides the ability to do custom programming.
