Overview

The Switch User feature in Guard1 allows users to transfer the ownership of the client instance to another user with similar or different permissions without closing the application entirely.

Introduction

The Switch User feature consists of two main parts:

  1. The Switch User button
  2. The login screen that appears after clicking the button

Switch User Button

The Switch User button is located on the top right corner beside the ‘Logout’ button in any window of the Guard1 client.

Login Screen

The login screen that appears after clicking the Switch User button is similar to the main login screen. However, entering credentials in this screen changes the logged-in user without launching a new application.

Quick Notes

  • The ‘Switch User’ feature is enabled by default and cannot be disabled.
  • Accounts with different permissions will change the view of the Guard1 Client accordingly.
  • For example, switching to a user without ‘Control’ permission will make the ‘Control’ tab unavailable.

Conclusion

The Switch User feature is ideal for quickly changing permissions during a shift change, especially in restricted applications where users cannot open new instances or close the client.

Overview

The Switch User feature in Guard1 was intended to give users the ability to quickly transfer the owner of the client instance to another user with different or similar permissions. This is useful in the case that the Guard1 Client is a restricted application where certain users are not able to terminate the application. This allows the facility to switch the logged in user without having to close the application entirely.

Introduction

The Switch User feature has two main parts to it:

  1. The button which allows you to switch users
  2. The login screen that appears after you click the button

Switch User Button

The “Switch User” button is visible in any window of the Guard1 client. It is located on the top right corner besides the ‘Logout’ button.

The login screen

The login screen which appears after you click the “Switch User” button is like the main login screen used when initially launching the Guard1 Client. The main difference between this screen and the initial login screen is that when a user types in their credentials into the ‘Switch User’ login screen, instead of Guard1 launching another application, it instead changes the logged in user of the current client.

Quick Notes

  • The ‘switch user’ feature cannot be disabled and is enabled by default.
  • When signing into the ‘switch user’ screen, accounts with different permissions that the current logged in user will change the view of the Guard1 Client accordingly.
    • IE: If a user is logged in with only the ‘Control’ permission, and switches users to an account without the ‘Control’ permission and some other permission, then the ability to view the ‘Control’ tab will become unavailable

Conclusion

The switch user feature is useful for quickly changing the logged on permissions and great for a shift change. An example of where this feature could be utilized is when the Guard1 Client is restricted by the facility. If the users are unable to open new instances of the client or close the client, this feature is perfect for switching users without having to close the application or open a new instance.
