The infor- mation contained in this manual will help you receive maximum performance and satisfaction from your STIHL product and, if followed, reduce the risk of injury from its use. The STIHL Smart Connector allows you to track the runtime of nearly any piece of outdoor power equipment through the STIHL connected App. When the Smart Connector is within Bluetooth® range of a smartphone or tablet running the STIHL connected App, you can also track the location and status of a con- nected product.
It is important that you read and observe the following information and warnings. Improper use can cause serious injury.

Your STIHL Smart Connector is designed for use only with a properly inserted CR2032 button cell battery. Do not attempt to use another button cell or electrical power supply.
Use with an unauthorized battery can result in fire, explosion, or leakage of battery fluid.
Swallowing or ingesting the button cell battery can cause serious internal chemical burns which may lead to death in less than 2 hours. Always secure the bat- tery compartment. Keep battery away from children. If you think a battery has been swallowed, seek emergency medi- cal attention immedi- ately. Do not induce vomiting.
Ensure the battery compartment on the STIHL Connector is closed securely.

If the compartment will not remain closed, remove the battery and discontinue use. Properly dispose

Handle discharged/depleted batteries carefully. Keep away from children. Properly dispose of batteries immediately at the end of their useful life. Never dispose of batter- ies with household waste. Observe all federal, state and local disposal rules and regulations.

Mounting and Operation
WARNING
Before mounting, read and follow all warnings and safety instructions pro- vided with the power equipment. For STIHL power equipment, mount the Smart Connector in the manner and in the locations rec- ommended in the STIHL connec- ted App. If the STIHL Smart Connector is used on a third-party product, fol- low the product manufacturer’s operating instructions.
If the STIHL Smart Connector is mounted on a third-party product: Do not mount while the product is running. If possible, remove the cutting or working attachment before posi- tioning and mounting the Smart Connector.

Ensure that the product’s moving parts do not touch the operator, the ground or objects.
Keep bystanders, children and ani- mals away.
When positioning the Smart Con- nector, hold the product securely and maintain control at all times.
Avoid sharp components and hot surfaces during mounting. Wear gloves and other protective equip- ment as needed to reduce any risk of laceration or burn injury.
Ensure that no electrical parts, cables, wires, wiring harnesses, brackets, guards, fuel lines or other components will be damaged if drill- ing holes or using screws or cable ties to install the STIHL Connector.
Never mount the Smart Connector in a manner or in a location that inter- feres with proper working technique or your ability to control the power tool.
Never cover safety warning labels or other on-product markings.
Use common sense when mounting to reduce the risk of personal injury or property damage.
Never mount the Smart Connector on product handles, switches, controls, air inlets, exhaust vents, mufflers, guards or moving parts. Never mount in areas on the tool that are exposed to heat or sparks.
Cleaning and Storage
WARNING
Reduce the risk of short circuit: Keep the Smart Connector free of foreign matter. Clean with a dry cloth or soft, dry brush.
Never clean with detergents or sol- vents, which may damage the pol- ymer housing.
Never spray with a pressure washer or otherwise spray with water or other liquids.
Improper storage can lead to unau- thorized use, damage to the Smart Connector and the power tool it´s connected to, and increase the risk of personal injury and property damage. Store the Smart Connector indoors in a dry, secure place that is inac- cessible to children and other unauthorized users.

Linking the Smart Connector to the STIHL connected App
In the STIHL connected App, select “Add Connector.” Follow the instruc- tions on your smartphone or tablet. When prompted, scan the data matrix code inside the Smart Connector’s battery compartment. Follow the stepby-step instructions for completing the linking process. Install the battery according to the instructions in Chap- ter “Installing the Battery”.

Installing the Battery
The STIHL Smart Connector is powered by a CR2032 button cell battery. Never attempt to use any other type of battery.
WARNING
Chemical burn hazard. Keep batteries away from children.
WARNING
This product contains a lithium but- ton/coin cell battery. If a new or used button/coin cell battery is swallowed or enters the body, it can cause severe internal burns and can lead to death in as little as 2 hours. Always completely secure the battery com- partment. If the battery compartment does not close securely, stop using the product, remove the battery, and keep it away from children. If you think a battery might have been swal- lowed or placed inside any part of the body, seek immediate medical atten- tion.
To install the battery in the Smart Con- nector: Using the tool provided, turn the
Smart Connector cover counterclockwise to the unlocked position. Remove the cover. Remove the battery. Remove and discard the protective battery foil. Link the Smart Connector to the STIHL connected App according to the instructions in Chapter “Linking the Smart Connector to the STIHL connected App”.
Install the battery with the polarity (+) pointing upwards.
Replace the cover. Using the tool provided, turn the
cover clockwise to the locked posi- tion. The LED will glow green for three seconds when the battery is properly inserted.
During Operation
Runtime and Location Tracking
Once you have linked your STIHL con- nected App account to your STIHL Con- nector, you will be prompted for informa- tion to help you track your equipment. Runtime detection is only possible if the Smart Connector is attached within 3.9 in. (10 cm) of the electric motor or spark plug. Once the Smart Connector is attached to a tool and the tool is started or switched on, the Smart Connector will start tracking runtime, which will be sub- mitted to the STIHL connected App when the smartphone or tablet is in range. Bluetooth® and location services must be enabled on your mobile device to enable tracking features. The Smart Connector’s signal range may vary depending on ambient condi- tions and the performance of the smart- phone or tablet. The Bluetooth® range may be limited when the signal is trans- mitted through metallic barriers (e.g., walls, shelving units, etc.) or near strong electromagnetic fields. Mounting Instructions
Mounting the Smart Connector to the Product
WARNING
To reduce the risk of serious or fatal injuries to the operator or bystanders, keep hands, feet and other parts of the body away from moving parts when mounting the Smart Connector. If possible, remove the cutting or working attachment before position- ing and mounting the Smart Connec- tor. Hold the product securely and maintain control at all times. Avoid sharp components and hot surfaces during mounting. Wear gloves and other protective equipment as needed to reduce the risk of laceration or burn injury.
The Smart Connector can be attached to nearly any piece of electric, gas or battery-powered outdoor power equip- ment that has sufficient surface area for mounting. For the runtime detection fea- tures to activate, mount the Smart Con- nector within 3.9 in. (10 cm) of the elec- tric motor or spark plug. For STIHL power equipment, mount the Smart Connector in the manner and in the locations recommended in the STIHL connected App. If the Smart Connector is to be attached to a third-party product, follow the instructions in this manual and in the STIHL connected App.
8.1 Mounting the Smart Connector with the adhesive backing tape. Select a flat surface of at least
2.17 in. x 1.56 in. (55 mm x 40 mm). Clean the surface with a mild deter-
gent and damp cloth to remove any dirt or debris. Dry after cleaning. Peel back the adhesive backing film and press the Smart Connector onto the mounting surface until it is secure.
8.2 Mounting the Smart Connector with screws You can mount the Smart Connector using the two included pan-head, selftapping screws. Pre-drill the mounting holes from the
Smart Connectors side, using an appropriate 7/64 in. (3 mm) drill bit. Drill the mounting holes from the opposite side, using an appropriate 5/32 in. (4 mm) drill bit. Drill only through the part where the Smart Connector is mounted. Do not drill through the Smart Connectors holes.
8.3 Mounting the Smart Connector with cable ties You can mount the Smart Connector using two cable ties. Drill the mounting holes using an
appropriate 7/64 in. (3 mm) drill bit.
8.4 Mounting the Smart Connector with rivets You can mount the Smart Connector using two rivets made of aluminum. Drill the mounting holes using an
appropriate 9/64 in. (3.5 mm) drill bit.

Descargue la aplicación STIHL con- nected de Google Play o de la App Store.
Siga las instrucciones de la aplica- ción para crear una nueva cuenta de usuario. Los usuarios que ya hayan utilizado la aplicación deben iniciar sesión con los datos de acceso de su cuenta.
Siga las instrucciones paso por paso para añadir su producto a la lista de productos.
Vínculo del Smart Connector con la aplicación STIHL con- nected
En la aplicación STIHL connected, seleccione “Add Connector” (Añadir conector). Siga las instrucciones que verá en su teléfono inteligente o en su tableta. Cuando reciba el indica- tivo correspondiente, escanee el código de matriz de datos ubicado en el lado interior del compartimento de batería del Smart Connector. Siga las instrucciones paso a paso dadas en la aplicación para finalizar el proceso de vinculación. Instale la batería según las instrucciones dadas en el Capítulo “Instalación de la batería”.

Una vez que ha vinculado su cuenta de la aplicación STIHL connected con su conector STIHL, se le mostrará una indi- cación pidiéndole información para ayu- darle a rastrear sus equipos. La detección del tiempo de funciona- miento solo es posible si el Smart Con- nector está conectado a menos de 3.9 pulgadas (10 cm) del motor eléctrico o de la bujía. Una vez que el Smart Connector ha sido montado en una herramienta y esta se arranca o se enciende, el Smart Con- nector empezará a contar el tiempo de uso, el cual será enviado a la aplicación STIHL connected cuando el teléfono inteligente o la tableta esté dentro del alcance. Bluetooth® y los servicios de ubicación deben estar activados en el dispositivo móvil para poder usar las funciones de rastreo. 8.1 Montaje del Smart Connector con la cinta adhesiva de soporte. Seleccione una superficie plana de al
menos 2.17 pulg. x 1.56 pulg. (55 mm x 40 mm). Limpie la superficie con un deter- gente suave y un paño húmedo para quitarle la tierra y la suciedad. Séquela después de haberla lim- piado. Quite el papel protector del adhesivo y presione el Smart Connector en la superficie de montaje hasta asegu- rarlo.
8.2 Montaje del Smart Connector con tornillos Se puede montar el Smart Connector utilizando los dos tornillos autorroscan- tes de cabeza plana incluidos. Taladre los agujeros de montaje en el
lado donde se colocará el Smart Con- nector, usando una broca adecuada de 7/64 pulg. (3 mm). Taladre los agujeros de montaje en el lado opuesto, usando una broca ade- cuada de 5/32 pulg. (4 mm).
