Introduction

The Kentec/Hochiki network manager is specifically designed for use with the following Kentec and Hochiki panel brands:

Kentec

  • Syncro AS
  • Elite RS
  • OEM branded variants of Syncro/Elite RS

Hochiki

  • HFP
  • FireNET Plus

Panel Setup

The panel must be configured with the Graphic option enabled; this is done through the LE2 configuration software, see screenshot below:Kentec-AMX-Network-Manager-fig-1

AMX Graphics software

AMX Network Manager – Syncro/HFP/FireNET Plus Man-1585 Rev.02 Enabling the Graphics System allows the heartbeat handshake between the panel and PC. The AMX PC is connected to the panel via the socket labelled PC on the panel facia as shown below.

  • PC port on Syncro AS and HFP is on the bottom edge of the facia plate below the Evacuate and Function buttons.Kentec-AMX-Network-Manager-fig-2
  • PC Port on Elite RS and FireNET Plus is located on the left hand side of the internal facia plate.Kentec-AMX-Network-Manager-fig-3

Important! This port does not function on Elite RS/FireNET Plus panels with a dialer. Therefore, it is not possible to connect a graphics system to a panel which has a dialer fitted.

Additional hardware requirements

Connection to these panels is via serial RS232 using the panels Printer Port. The parts for connecting the panel to the graphics PC will depend on the communication distance, see tables 1, 2 and basic connection diagrams.

Panel Controls

Full control of the Kentec/Hochiki panels listed in section 1 is only available when the node type is set to Syncro Enhanced. Using the Syncro Enhanced setting the following control actions can be achieved from the AMX:

  • Reset Panel
  • Silence Network Alarms
  • Disable Device
  • Enable Device
  • Disable Zone
  • Enable Zone
  • Evacuate Panel
  • Alert Panel
  • Silence Panel Alarms
  • Evacuate Network
  • Reset Network
  • Alert Network

Initialization

When the system is first started any events already in the fire panel system will not be displayed on the AMX. Upon start up a reset box will be displayed providing the operator with a quick and easy method of getting the current data. If the operator decides not to get the current events just close the box, any new events will be displayed as normal.

6. RS232 Connection

The AMX PC connects to the Kentec panel using RS232 serial communications. An RS232 lead connects a COM port (serial port) on the AMX PC to the serial port on the Kentec panel labelled ‘PC’. This is a panel specific lead that is used for uploading and downloading configurations to the panel and can be purchased from the panel supplier. A USB to Serial adaptor will also be required. The maximum length of RS232 connection allowed is approximately 15 metres.
