INTRODUCTION
The analog sound box can be utilized for both N and HO scales thanks to its modular pass-through construction!
Although the analog sound box comes with an early EMD 1st generation diesel sound chip, you may purchase additional diesel, steam, and electric sound sets to provide virtually any sounds you like to your non-DCC layout!
The sound box doesn’t simply generate noise; it can also tell how hard and how quickly your engines are working by sensing the strain on their motors.
WHAT’S IN THE BOX
- Sound Box
- EMD 1st Generation Diesel Sound Card
- Jump Cable

Regarding this item
The analog sound box can be utilized for both N and HO scales thanks to its modular pass-through construction!
Although the analog sound box comes with an early EMD 1st generation diesel sound chip, you may purchase additional diesel, steam, and electric sound sets to provide virtually any sounds you like to your non-DCC layout!
The sound box doesn’t simply generate noise; it can also tell how hard and how quickly your engines are working by sensing the strain on their motors. Without the use of DCC, some sound schemes (like steam, where the chuff is directly related to the movement of the side rods in your view) would automatically modify the sound to match the locomotive’s speed.
possess a robust home audio system? In contrast to sound systems that are connected to a locomotive, the analog sound box features a stereo out port so you can connect headphones or speakers of your choice if you’d rather not wake the neighbors.
designed to connect quickly to the Kato power pack (sold separately)
From the comfort of your home, enjoy In-Cab Sound
To create a straightforward, adaptable, and potent sound system for use on non-DCC layouts, engineers at Kato and Soundtraxx collaborated to create the Analog Sound Box. The ASB is entirely self-contained, has a built-in speaker, and will help modelers feel in a train car while driving their preferred trains!
The ASB is a smart device that not only creates sounds but also responds appropriately to the actions of your locomotives by reading back-EMF from the motors. It does this by using separate plug-in sound containers, and cartridges each with their own individual sound, and programming sets (even including things like momentum!). Steam locomotive chuffs change in pace in response to the locomotive’s actual speed, not just the throttle position, making the sound a truly dynamic experience!
Product Features
- Both HO and N track compatible
- Select your audio.
- A clever back-EMF reader
- When you want it to be loud (or silent).
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTION
Will this work on old Marx O gauge locomotive sets ?
As long as the power supply is connected to the box i think it will work
The size is 1/8th. inch.
YES
The size is 1/8 inch.
Absolutely, mine is on my n scale layout & works perfectly. By the way, it turns your transformer into a momentum throttle which is great. They ought to add that always desirable note to their feature list in their advertisement of this amazing sound system.
It needs a power source…..it produces the sound according to the voltage received
Yes but you need to buy a kato 24842 dc rectifier to make it work. Then connect the two rectifier chip wires to your AC accessory output of your controller and snap the blue kato rectifier chip onto your soundbox being sure to match the positive and negatives button terminals to those on the sound box.
There are different sound cards available for the Kato sound system: Light steam, 1st generation diesel.. I haven’t looked at different sound card availability yet. But I would think that there would be 2nd and 3rd generation diesel sound cards out there.
I don’t see why it wouldn’t work….use mine with n scale
Yes but if you don’t have a Kato power pack you need additional wiring. The sound comes from the box, not the locomotive
Yes as long as the supply has a positive (not negative) center pin and is rated between 8 to 18 volts d.c. Pretty much any 12 vdc wall wart should work but be sure of the center pin polarity as mentioned above.
