Getting Started:

Download the Alexa App

Download and install the Alexa app from your mobile device app store. Add the Alexa widget for easy home screen access.

  1. Open the app store on your mobile device.
  2. Search for Amazon Alexa app.
  3. Select Install.
  4. Select Open and sign in with your Amazon Account.
  5. Install Alexa widgets (optional).
Tip: Widgets allow easier access to Alexa from your device home screen. Alexa widgets become available in the device widget menu after you sign in to the Alexa app. On iOS (iOS 14 or newer) or Android devices, long-press the home page of your device and follow the instructions to add widgets.

For richer sound quality, pair your Echo Sub to a supported Echo device.

Before setting up Echo Sub, make sure that you have a supported Echo device on your Amazon account. Verify it’s online in the Alexa app.
  1. Place your Echo Sub on the floor in the same room as your Echo.
  2. Open the Alexa app .
  3. Open More  and select Add a Device.
  4. Select Amazon Echo, and then Echo Sub.
  5. Plug in your device.
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions in the Alexa app to complete setup.
    1. If you’re trying to add your Echo Sub to an existing speaker set, delete the speaker set first.

Create Sub Pairs with Echo Sub and Compatible Echo Devices

To get music with rich bass, pair one supported Echo device with the Echo Sub.

  1. Open the Alexa app .
  2. Select Devices.
  3. Select plus .
  4. Select Set Up Audio System.
  5. Select Stereo Pair, then follow the on-screen instructions.
Create Speaker Sets with Compatible Echo Devices

For stereo sound and improved music playback in the left and right channels, pair two supported Echo devices.

  1. Open the Alexa app .
  2. Select Devices .
  3. Select plus .
  4. Select Combine Speakers.
  5. Select Stereo Pair / subwoofer, and then follow the on-screen instructions.

What is the Amazon Music Unlimited Single Device Plan?

Amazon Music Unlimited Single Device plan is a premium subscription service featuring millions of songs on one single Echo device or Fire TV.

The Amazon Music Unlimited Single Device Plan gives you the benefits of Amazon Music Unlimited on one eligible Echo or Fire TV device. You can listen to ad-free playlists and personalized streaming stations.

The Amazon Music Unlimited Single Device Plan supports pairing a single Echo device with Echo Sub in a sub pair.

For speaker sets, home theater groups, or multi-room music, an Amazon Music Unlimited subscription is required.


Troubleshooting:

Music Not Playing From Speaker Pairs

To resolve most issues with speaker pairs, restart your Echo devices.

  • Restart your Echo devices by unplugging and then plugging them back in.
  • Check that you are playing supported music content. Line out and Bluetooth connections are not supported.
  • Make sure that the paired Echo devices are online.
  • Make sure that you have requested music playback on the correct, paired Echo devices.
  • Ask your Echo device to play a song with heavy bass to test the connection.
Music Not Playing from Sub Pairs

To resolve most issues with sub pairs, restart your Echo Sub.

  • Restart your Echo Sub by unplugging the device and then plugging it back in.
  • Check in the Alexa app to make sure Echo Sub and a supported Echo device are paired.
  • Check that you are using the included power adapter.
  • Check that you are playing supported music content. Line out and Bluetooth connections are not supported.
Reset Your Echo Sub

If your Echo Sub isn’t responding, and you’ve tried to restart it, reset your device.

If your device is unresponsive, first restart your device. Unplug the power adapter from the device or the outlet and wait for 10 seconds. Plug it back in to restart it.

Reset Your Echo Sub

To reset your device to its factory settings:

  1. Press and hold the Action button until the light indicator flashes orange (about 25 seconds).
  2. Your device enters setup mode. For setup instructions, go to Set Up Your Echo Sub.
Note: This reset erases all your personal information.
Tip: If resetting your device isn’t helpful or you no longer want to use your device, Deregister Your Device from your Amazon account. Deregistering your device erases all device settings.
Deregister Your Device

If you no longer wish to use your device, you can deregister it from your Amazon account.

If you would like to give your device as a gift or wish to register the device under a different account, you will need to deregister the device from your account.

To deregister your device:

  1. Go to Manage Your Content and Devices and log in to your account.
  2. Click Devices.
  3. Select your device and click Deregister.
