INTRODUCTION
- DVSA Approved for use in testing stations on vehicle classes 4, 5, and 7. A quick and simple test of 12V 13-pin Euro-type sockets fitted to the rear of the vehicle. Supplied with 4.9m cable to enable the operator to use the tool whilst sitting in the vehicle.
- Features a self-test facility to ensure the serviceability of the tool. Powered by 12V vehicle supply. Also tests the 12V continuous/ignition live feeds and the reversing lights – not part of the current MOT test, but useful when diagnosing electrical faults.
- Includes a 13 to 7-pin adaptor for testing older wiring systems.
- NOTE: The self-test facility is not available when using the 13-7 pin towing adaptor, because there is no continuous feed via the 7 pin socket, from the vehicle.
OPERATION
- Lift the vehicle’s towing socket cover and insert the tester’s plug into the socket, take care to line up with the socket before insertion. Twist the outer plug ring clockwise to lock the plug into place.
- If the socket is wired for a continuous 12V supply, the 12V CONTINUOUS LED should illuminate immediately – note this is not a condition of the MOT Test.
- Sit in the vehicle with the tester unit. Press ‘Test’ to ensure that the tester’s control circuitry and the LEDs are in working order.
- Turn the vehicle’s ignition switch to the ‘ON’ position, but DO NOT start the vehicle’s engine. The 12V IGNITION LED should illuminate.
Required MOT Test checks
- Operate in turn:
- The left and right-hand indicators
- the Side Lights
- the Fog Lights
- Depres
- the vehicle’s foot brake pedal.
- In each case, check to ensure the appropriate
- LED illuminates on the tester.
- In addition to the above MOT required checks, also select the reverse gear, and check that the LED illuminates.
- When all checks are completed, remove the tester from the vehicle’s towing socket, twisting the plug ring anti-clockwise, and easing the plug assembly out of the socket. Replace the towing socket cover.
- NOTE: When testing vehicles that include a tow-bar electrics self-test facility, all of the tester’s LED apart from the 12V feed, may flicker. This is a function of the vehicle’s self-test and is normal.
- However, when testing the vehicle, the LEDs will light fully if and when voltage is being applied to each of the 13 pins on the socket, so, therefore, the tester can be used as normal.
- NOTE: The self-test facility is not available when using the 13-7 pin towing adaptor, because there is no continuous feed via the 7 pin socket, from the vehicle.
