POND PREPARATION

  • The pond is a garden feature that was created in remote times in man’s history; today, it is considered the crowning feature of landscape architecture. You too can create one easily, without any limit to your imagination: all you have to do is follow our simple instructions.
  • For the position of the pond, we advise you to choose an airy, sunny area, avoiding the vicinity of trees. Once you have found the right place, use stakes to mark out the shape you prefer on the ground, with the aid of our suggestions.
  • Dig a hole about 70 cm deep, taking care to set aside a well defined central area in which to position the filter and a shelf all along the edge, which is necessary for positioning ornamental aquatic plants (see Ill. 1). After having levelled the bottom and laid a thin layer of sand, unroll the plastic sheet (see Ill. 2) or position the pre-formed basin which you will have bought beforehand. If you use the sheet, take care not to make a hole in it. Anchor the sheet temporarily with stones along the edges and put some medium-grain gravel in the bottom part of the hole, up to a depth of about 10 cm, to create a new natural bottom (see Ill. 3). Now you can fill the hole with water, but only half-way up: this will allow you to complete the shelf edge as you prefer, perhaps following our suggestions (see Ill. 4)
  • Prepare the filter that you have bought, following the positioning and regulating instructions given below. Once you have done this, place the filter in a central position with respect to the edges, in an easily accessible area, and at a depth of 60 cm (see Ill. 5 – 6), taking care to lead out the cable in a place where it cannot be damaged in any case. At this point, fill the hole with water (see Ill. 9). When you have finished, you can cut off any excess sheet, taking care to leave at least 15 cm protruding around the edge. On the sheet left around the edge, you can create a border of natural stones, regular stone shapes, or waterproofed wooden beams, etc. (see Ill. 10). Now you can start the filter, which will embellish the pond with plays of water and will keep the water environment purified.

SAFETY REGULATIONS

Before doing any work on the pump or the filter, turn off the power supply to all the electrical appliances immersed in water. Do not install if the cable or pump has been damaged in any way. The power cable of this appliance may not be replaced; if it is damaged, the appliance must be scrapped. The product complies with the current safety regulations. Check that the voltage marked on the pump is the same as that of the power mains. The pump must be used with a differential switch with a rated current lower than or equal to 30 mA.

THE PUMP – FILTER MUST NOT OPERATE WITHOUT WATER; IT MAY BE USED IN LIQUIDS WITH A TEMPERATURE NO HIGHER THAN 35ºC!

POSITIONING AND REGULATING ECOPOND

  • The garden pumps in the ECOPOND line have very compact dimensions, which make them excellent for use in applications where space is a problem. These pumps have a special folding support, which is very useful in situations where there is poor stability. To open and close the supports, it is sufficient to turn them (see Ill. 7). Before immersing the pump in water, you must prepare it for use: take the telescopic pipe equipped with a regulating valve and, on the top end of the pipe, fit the spray you have chosen. Insert the accessories in the pump. Now you can position it inside the basin or the fountain and, if it does not sit firmly on the bottom, place some stones on top of the filter (see Ill. 6). Adapt the height of the pipe so that the spray is always above the water level and start the pump by inserting the plug in a suitable power socket. Fitting the extension onto the telescopic pipe
  • If the pond or basin is too deep and the total extension of the telescopic pipe is not sufficient for the spray to emerge, you can use the extension pipe provided, which will enable you to extend the total length of the telescopic pipe by another 17 cm. Insert the small coupling in the extension pipe (see Fig. 8) and, using the coupling, connect the whole piece onto the main telescopic pipe: the spray must be fitted at the top end of the extension pipe.

Regulating the flow of water

To regulate the width and shape of the play of water, you can turn the valve built into the telescopic pipe (see Fig. 14). Further adjustment may be obtained by turning the spray.

Deviating from the flow of water

If the filter is used in a pond and you want to create a small stream, a waterfall, etc., it is sufficient to connect a flexible pipe with diameter 10 mm (Ecopond 1) or 22 mm (Ecopond 2) to the side mouthpiece of the valve: by means of the tap on the mouthpiece you can regulate the flow by turning the knob. By turning this knob, you will divert part of the water flowing out of the telescopic pipe towards the side outlet of the valve, thus causing a reduction in the flow.

MAINTENANCE OF ECOPOND

Remember that, before doing any work on your filter and pump, you must turn off the power supply to the appliance, remove the plug, and scrupulously follow the safety regulations.
Clean ECOPOND every 4 –5 months following the operations described below. Remove the water filter by holding it by the handle provided. Unscrew the extension tube so as to remove it and release the lid, rotating it counterclockwise (see Ill. 11). Remove the outer modules, lifting them upward (see Ill. 12). Pull out the sponge (see Ill. 13) and rinse it thoroughly with running water. If also the pump need to be cleaned, remove the internal rings by pushing outwards the three hooking teeth inside each of them (see Ill. 14). The pump can be removed from the bottom by unhooking the four teeth which fix it to the bracket (see Ill. 15). The pumps inside ECOPOND 1  2, are centrifugal pumps with a magnetic movement, driven by a watertight synchronous motor. They require minimum maintenance, only periodic cleaning of the filtering material and of the rotor.

Wash everything in lukewarm water, using a soft brush to remove any deposits of scale: then reassemble all the parts, proceeding in inverse order.

REGULATION AND MAINTENANCE OF THE SPRAYS

  • If you want to regulate the dimensions of the jets of water, adjust the valve on the telescopic pipe. You can also vary the shape of the WATERBELL and of the WATERLILY simply by turning their central cones.
  • If the jet of water is not working regularly, you must remove it from the pipe and dismantle it, proceeding as follows for each case: WATERBELL and WATERLILY: completely unscrew the central cone A.
  • SINGLE DAISY and DOUBLE DAISY: turn the external ring councounterclockwiseRGE WATERBELL: completely unscrew the central cone
  • LARGE DAISY: turn the top part D counterclockwise.
  • The spray must be washed accurately in lukewarm water, removing any scale with a soft brush.
