Shelly LoRa Add-on: A compact long-range communication add-on for Shelly Gen3 and Gen4 devices. Ces are referred to in this document as “the Device”

Shelly Europe Ltd. is not responsible for any loss or damage in case of incor-rect installation or improper operation of this device due to failure to follow the user and safety instructions in this guide.

Product description

The Shelly LoRa Add-on enables reliable communication over distances of up to 5 km. Designed for certain Shelly Gen3 and Gen4 devices, it redefines long-range connectivity by delivering secure performance in open spaces and dependable operation even in challenging environments. Powered by LoRa and Shelly’s protocol, this compact add-on is perfect for automating city infrastructure, managing remote facilities, or optimizing precision agriculture. It also supports custom scripts, giving you the flexibility to tailor functionality for the specific use case. The LoRa Add-on supports the EU868, US915, and AU915-928 frequency bands, used in specific regions. Enabling a particular band may require a firmware update.

  • The Device can be configured, controlled, and monitored via the web interface of the Shelly Gen3 or Gen4 host device.
  • The Device comes with factory-installed firmware. To keep it updated and secure, Shelly Europe Ltd.
  • Provides the latest firmware updates free of charge. You can download the updates through the built-in web interface of your Shelly Gen3 or Gen4 host device.
  • It’s the user’s responsibility to install firmware up-dates. Shelly Europe Ltd. shall not be liable for any lack of conformity of the Device caused by the failure of the user to install the available updates in a timely manner.

Installation instructions

If you want to install the Shelly LoRa Add-on to a specific Shelly Gen3 or Gen4 device that is already connected to the power grid

  1. Turn the circuit breakers off and ensure there is no voltage at the terminals of the Shelly Gen3 or Gen4 device.
  2. Attach the add-on to the Shelly host device as shown in Fig. 1. Make sure the brackets (A) lock on the Shelly host device hooks (B).
  3.  Enter the web interface of your Gen3 or Gen4 device to enable and set up the Shelly LoRa Add-on feature.

  1. Turn the circuit breakers off.
  2. Attach the add-on to the Shelly Gen3 or Gen4 device as shown in Fig. 1. Make sure the brackets (A) lock on the Shelly host device hooks (B).
  3. Install the Gen3 or Gen4 device by following its user and safety guide.
  4. Enable and set up the Shelly LoRa Add-on from the web interface of your Gen3 or Gen4 host device.

Shelly Cloud inclusion
The Device can be monitored and controlled through our Shelly Cloud home automation service. You can use the service through either our Android, iOS, or Harmony OS mobile application or through any internet browser at https://control.shelly.cloud/.
If you choose to use the Device with the application and Shelly Cloud service, you can find instructions on how to connect the Device to the Cloud and control it from the Shelly app in the application guide: https://shelly.link/app-guide. The Shelly mobile application and Shelly Cloud service are not prerequisites for the Device to function properly. It can be managed solely via the host device’s web interface or used (in combination with a host device) with various other home automation platforms.
