Confirmed GE-built Americana major appliances; Americana is distinct from American water heaters and unrelated brand owners.

Americana serial numbers by device type
Use the complete equipment label, its separate model number and the documented product family. A repeating date code does not establish the model, purchase date, installation date or warranty entitlement.
GE-built Americana refrigerators and ranges
GE’s owner center documents Americana refrigerators and freestanding gas/electric ranges. Confirm the GE manufacturer and read the actual model field; those product listings do not map an entered serial to a full model.
GE’s older cooking guide calls some freestanding double-oven designs Americana ranges and gives different positions before/after 1980. Confirm the actual model and manufacturer; a historical style name is not a universal serial rule.
Use these guides for confirmed GE-built Americana major appliances. GE also uses Americana as a description for older Hi-Lo ranges; confirm the actual model and manufacturer rather than treating every use of the name as the same product line. American-brand water heaters have a separate page.
Choose your product type to see its label locations. An identification example may illustrate the fields without containing a valid date code.

1980 and later: lower-oven opening frame or behind the storage drawer. Earlier: upper-oven frame between the hinges. Microwave-top versions: left microwave wall or lower-oven frame. Gas versions: beneath the lift-up cooktop.
Format / what to enter
Copy the complete model and serial from their separate label fields.
Americana is used here as GE’s historical Hi-Lo range description. Confirm the actual manufacturer and label; the name alone does not establish a serial format.
Use the source’s exact range/cooktop design to select a possible label position, including the oven-opening frame, below a lift-up top or around the storage-drawer opening.
Format / what to enter
Copy the complete model and serial from their separate label fields.
The name alone does not establish the manufacturer, serial layout or production year.
Compare the front frame behind the oven door, the drawer-opening frame and the design-specific cooktop/control positions in GE’s range guide.
Format / what to enter
Copy the complete model and serial from their separate label fields.
GE’s owner center documents Americana ranges such as AGBS300PJWW; that model listing is brand/product context, not a serial-to-model or exact individual-unit date rule.
Possible GE top-freezer locations include the upper-left fresh-food wall, wall near the crispers, freezer ceiling, temperature-control area, behind drawers or lower front edge.
Format / what to enter
Copy the complete model and serial from their separate label fields.
GE’s owner center documents Americana refrigerators such as A3315ABRWW; read the actual unit’s model separately.
Do not apply these codes to unrelated Americana brand owners or undocumented historical products.
Two-letter date prefixes such as GA are shared by many units. Select the dedicated prefix option explicitly; a prefix does not replace the complete serial or model.
A separately entered, exactly verified model can provide production-window context. It does not turn the serial into a model or guarantee the manufacture date of every engineering revision.

North American GE month/year letters; historical dates retained
Confirmed North American GE / GE Profile appliances, GE-built Americana / US Hotpoint, and documented Zoneline AZ75, AZ85, AZ90/91 and AZ95 layouts. Other GE HVAC and water-heater systems need separate rules.
Year codes repeat. All documented candidate years are shown; the newest year is not selected automatically. GE chart inconsistently lists 1972 under both N and R, 1973 under both P and S; both entries are retained as printed in the source chart. No factory/model inference from first two letters. Manufacturer Zoneline examples illustrate this same month/year layout. A single year printed beside an example supplies independent example context; it does not erase other literal year cycles.
GE two-letter date prefix only (confirm system)
Only the explicitly selected, confirmed GE appliance date-prefix system. This is not a complete serial lookup.
The manufacturer uses two-letter examples such as GA to explain repeating manufacture dates. Preserve all literal chart years; a two-letter prefix is shared by many units and cannot establish a unique product, full model, factory or warranty.
Choose this option only when entering the two leading date letters from a confirmed GE appliance label. These letters are a partial date prefix, not the unique serial or a model identifier.

Americana lookup questions
Why does the year code match more than one year?
Some systems reuse letters or only encode the last one or two year digits. Every supported interpretation is retained. A decade supplied from reliable records can narrow the reading; the tool does not automatically pick the newest year.
Does the serial identify my exact model?
Usually the model is a separate plate field. Where published serial ranges actually identify a model, the result shows model candidates and links to their manuals. Overlapping ranges remain ambiguous.
Can I share the result?
After a lookup, the address includes the serial in a fragment beginning with #serial=. Use “Copy share link” to share the serial and selected context. Opening the link runs the same lookup. The fragment is not a query-string result page.
